Cebu guv prefers to sell Balili property
« on: May 05, 2020, 01:45:34 AM »
CEBU CITY -- Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III on Monday expressed his preference to sell the Balili Resort as the provincial government has no use for the property.

"If I were to decide, we would sell the Balili property because, as of the moment, it is not useful. Although there are livestock there, I don't see any beneficial purpose of the real property to the province. So, for me, it’s better to sell it," Davide said.

However, the governor said they will still evaluate the selling price for the property since it was bought for PHP98 million and it also cost the provincial government PHP48 million for the backfilling of some area.

Former Governor Gwen Garcia bought the 25-hectare Balili property in Naga City, south of Cebu City but it was found out later that the land is partly underwater.

"I'd like to know what will be the decision of our Economic Enterprise Council (EEC) because if I were to decide, I’d rather sell it," Davide said.

The City of Naga last Tuesday offered to buy the controversial property from the Provincial Government.

Naga Mayor Kristine Chiong said she plans to develop the property to further spur economic growth in the city.

The Balili property is being eyed as an industrial park or economic zone to generate job opportunities for Naga residents. (USJR intern Levirose Caballero/PNA)
