MANILA, Philippines – A 12-year-old boy was killed on night when he tried to shield his father from a knife-wielding man in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
Christopher Romualdo, a Grade 6 student, died while he was being taken to a hospital due to the numerous stab wounds he sustained all over his body.
The man who stabbed him – Michael Dumacay, 51 – was in turn killed by his intended victim, Joseph Romualdo, 43, the boy’s father.
SPO1 Roberto Pareño, case investigator, said that at around 6:30 p.m. Monday, Joseph was drinking with his neighbors in front of his house in Ilaya, Purok 6, when he shouted invectives at Dumacay for no apparent reason.
Pareño added that Dumacay, who was walking home from work, hurriedly left the area but returned after a few minutes, accompanied by several unidentified men.
Armed with a 12-inch knife, Dumacay lunged at Joseph and started a free-for-all, the police investigator said.
Upon seeing the incident, the boy ran to his father and shielded him from Dumacay using his body. As a result, he ended up taking most of the knife thrusts intended for his father.
“When Joseph saw his bloodied son, he took the knife from Dumacay and stabbed the assailant,†Pareño said in a police report.
He added that they later placed under arrest the boy’s father who was confined at the Alabang Medical Center for stab wounds.(inquirer.net)
