ISULAN, Sultan Kudarat, Aug. 9 -- A P100,000 reward has been offered for information that could identify and eventually prosecute the gunmen who shot dead a provincial radio-print journalist on Monday in Pres. Quirino, Sultan Kudarat, a police official said Wednesday.

Mayor Azel Mangudadatu of President Quirino has raised the bounty to immediately resolve the murder of journalist Leodoro Diaz, .of Barangay Katiko, President Quirino, according to Senior Supt. Raul Supiter.

Supiter, Sultan Kudarat police director, said Diaz, 60, columnist for Gen. Santos City-based Sapol tabloid and provincial correspondent of Manila Bulletin and Balita tabloid, was driving his motorbike going to Tacurong City with his son Cris Jay and a lady relative when two men riding tandem on motorbike opened fire on him in Barangay Kalanawi 2, Pres. Quirino.

He died instantly due to multiple gunshot wounds from .45 cal. pistol in the head and body.

Supiter said he created a multi-sectoral task force to help in the investigation and determine the motive of the attack against Diaz.

He said police are hunting down the perpetrators based on the statement issued by the victim’s son.

”We are digging deeper, we have some leads and we are following it 9without let up,” Supiter said. He refused to provide specific details on the investigation.

Chief Inspector Joan Resurrecion, Pres. Quirino town police chief, said Diaz’ son Cris Jay and a lady relative were riding with him but they escaped unhurt.

Supiter said police are determining if the murder was work related or triggered by personal grudge.  Even the victim’s son could not say if it was work related, saying his father has no known enemies.

However, Supiter said Diaz was a hard hitting newspaper columnist discussing illegal drugs and corruption in his daily column.

Supiter also appealed to anyone who has information about the Diaz murder to help the police locate the perpetrators.(PNA)
