(PNA) â€" Cebu election officials have raised the need to ensure a stable power supply in the days leading to and days after the May 10 polls to maximize the efficiency of the first poll automation.

But an official of the Visayan Electric Co. (Veco), Metro Cebu’s lone power utility, said the availability of power is the responsibility of the suppliers.

Election officials Monday met with telecommunication companies, power suppliers, police officials and other election stakeholders at the Casino Espanol de Cebu in Cebu City.

They also discussed the problems that could be encountered if unscrupulous people succeed in installing the signal jammers and blockers on election days.

The need to secure all installations and assets necessary during the elections was also taken up.

Lawyer Marchel Sarno, Cebu City north district election officer, said that five days before election day, the election day itself, and two days after the polls are crucial periods such that “no brownout” should occur.

”That is a crucial time. That is why we proposed to Veco and other power firms that there should be constant and continuous power supply five days before the elections, two days after and of course on election day. We also need to make sure that there is constant power supply in the telecommunication companies,” he said.
