Certification needed for heavy equipment operators
Davao City (31 August 2005) -- The Construction Manpower Development Foundation (CMDF), a government agency under the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in cooperation with the Lapanday Skills Training Center (LSTC), an accredited assessment center of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) will conduct regularly the Skills Assessment for Heavy Equipment Operators.

The Skills Assessment leads to the certification of operators once they successfully passed both the written and actual examinations. The Certification Program was conceived and implemented with the aim of improving the level of skills of workers in the construction industry.

To be employed in certain skilled trades, workers must have a Certification from TESDA through accredited centers like LSTC and CMDF. The certification of heavy equipment operators is also one of the requirements provided in the DOLE Department Order 3-Guidelines Governing Safety & Health in Construction Operators who wants to seek certification should have at lease a 3-year experience, with professional driver's license, and are physically and mentally fit. An assessment fee of Php 1,175 will be charged per participant to cover for the cost of materials, consumables, honorarium for the assessors and administration cost.

Interested participants may visit the CMDF office at DTI XI, the Mintrade Realty Bldg., Corner Monteverde-Sales St., Davao City of call Engr. Bryant Arante at tel. No (082) 224-0511 loc. 421. The venue for the trade assessments at the Lapanday Skills Training Center in Mandug, Davao City. The schedules will be set on a per batch basis. (DTI)
