Completion of Panguil Bay Bridge to perk economy in Misamis Occidental

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, July 2 (PNA) -– The opening of the Panguil Bay Bridge in Misamis Occidental would certainly perk up the economy of the once sleepy town of Tangub City and nearby province and localities.

The construction of the 3.6-kilometer Panguil Bay Bridge costing Php 5 billion is now underway. The bridge’s scheduled completion is in 2018, an official of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) said on Thursday.

NEDA Regional Director Leon Dacanay, said that this early, both foreign and local businesses have already expressed intention to invest in Tangub City once the bridge opens.

“The investors are already planning to build a five-star hotel in Tangub City because the city is the gateway to the Zamboanga Peninsula,” Dacanay said.

He said that it is only a 15-minute drive from Ozamis City to the west and a five-minute drive through the bridge to the south, which is Tubod, the capital town of Lanao Del Norte.

Under current conditions, motorists have to endure queuing from both banks of Panguil Bay in Ozamiz City and Kolambugan, Lanao Del Norte for a quick ferry ride from one direction to the other.

“When the Panguil Bay Bridge opens, there will be a smooth flow of traffic. No more hassles of queuing,” Dacanay said.

Situated at the southern curve of the D-shaped province of Misamis Occidental, the fabled Mt. Malindang Range casts a shadow that shelter Tangub City to the north, a city bounded by the placid seas of the Panguil Bay to the south.

Tangub City is composed of 55 villages with a land area of 16,572 hectares. Its economy relies heavily on coconut, corn and banana farming.

Dacanay said that the completion of the Panguil Bay Bridge three years from now, would definitely improve the economy of Tangub as the flow of goods and services between Northern and Western Mindanao regions gains new heights. (PNA)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
