To:  ABC To the producers of "Desperate Housewives" and ABC:

We are writing to express concern and hurt about a racially-discriminatory comment made in an episode of Desperate Housewives on 9/30/07. In a scene in which Susan was told by her gynecologist that she might be hitting menopause, she replied, "Can I just check those diplomas because I just want to make sure that they are not from some med school in the Philippines."

As members and allies of the Filipino American community, we are writing to inform know that this type of derogatory remark was discriminatory and hurtful, and such a comment was not necessary to maintain any humor in the show. Additionally, a statement that devalues Filipinos in healthcare is extremely unfounded, considering the overwhelming presence of Filipinos and Filipino Americans in the medical field. Filipinos are the second largest immigrant population in the United States, with many entering the U.S. (and successfully passing their U.S. licensing boards!) as doctors, nurses, and medical technicians. In fact, the Philippines produces more U.S. nurses than any other country in the world. So, to belittle the education, experience, or value of Filipino Americans in health care is extremely disrespectful and plain and simply ignorant. Many of the hospitals in major metropolitan areas of the U.S. (and the world) would not be able to operate without its Filipino and Filipino American staff members.

As Filipino Americans and allies, we band together to ensure that this type of hateful message should not be allowed to continue on our television and radio airwaves. Given the recent amounts of media attention that has been given to Michael Richards (against African Americans), Isaiah Washington (against gays), and Rosie O'Donnell (against Asian/ Chinese Americans), it is ridiculous that this type of hateful speech made it through various screenwriters, the show's producers, the show's actors, and ABC itself.

We demand a public apology to the Filipino American community, and we demand the episode be edited to remove the ignorant and racist remark. We will not allow hateful messages against our community (or any other oppressed community) to continue.

My day has been filled with warmth, happiness and love. I'm currently back home with family in New Jersey---enjoying my college Fall Break, which lasts till Wednesday. Today was great because i was able to have some quality father-and-son time with my dad, with my little brothers and my mom. Both of my parents worked today, so my sister and I took our little brothers to the Philadelphia Art Museum from 2pm till 5 pm, then we ended our day at the restaurant and just talked. My little brothers are sleeping right now, lol, and both of them sleeping in my bed (they want to sleep with kuya ) Im very happy right now, and feel content. I thank the good Lord for his blessings on us, and I hope that everyone in TB is enjoying their weekend as well.

Im not gonna tell my days this weekend, was horrible... no internet. no signal sa cellphone...

Mike got beat, too pressured because they were the champion last year and people already had in their mid to beat them...

kalooy sa dios  morag ako ang nag dula kay naglabad gyud ko ug maayo...

we ended up not talking through our 11 hours drive back home...

kay ning gamble pa gyud sha which was against my will...

he didnt lost  that bad though...

pero i had enought of the pressure too so I broke down  in the bar...(take note in the bar!)

i was very upset and made him upset...back and forth...

dili man ming duha pala away - pero ang bungol maka bungol...

at least he invited me for a pizza tonight while i was chatting with Ginger...

that was it folks...

we are on our lo 60's today- beautiful day!!!

Yes. Mingaw ko sa ahong mom, dad, my brothers Don and Andre. Just being around them was a gift, kai, ive been antosing to visit them---just to be around my papa and my mom. Talking about brod Mike and his papa this week has been very reminiscent for me, and reminded me how rarely i say 'I love you' to my own papa. I was able to do that this fall break.

The break wasn't bad, 'te. My dad and I rented a cultivator for our backyard and planted blue grass and fescue seeds; did some flower planting with my mom (for the Halloween season). I also was able to take my little bros out to the costume store---to buy costumes for them---it was the least Kuya could do for them (since i wont be able to go trick-or-treating with them this month). Ay sus...its very wierd how time passes tho. I still cant believe my brother Don is already a first year in high school, and my baby bro is already in 3rd grade. Papa and Mom celebrated their 23 years of marriage this break. So, of course, emotional pood. lol! Ning hilak pood ko, pero i didnt show it ...ning pahid2x lang ko quickly. lol!

Quick ra kaayo ang time, 'te. Kai 2 more months jud until this semester ends.
