a perfect afternoon for me ... my friend who owns a chinese restaurant and coffee shop invited me for an afternoon of coffee and dessert tasting ......

Rest and relaxation day today. Tomorrow...work begins again.

Toxic kaayo karon sa trabaho. So many problematic patients, and problematic students. I must later drive to the college to talk to two students who were causing problems in the medical phlebotomy class. The instructor of that class needs to be  firm with these students. Talking to students -- ah, it truly is an art.

I need to attend mass tomorrow morning. I am thirsty for the Gospel.

When no one's around, I do push ups. 20 or 30. It helps. Try it.

I went to dinner with a very, very, beautiful Chinese lady today. Nurse sa hospital.

One thing I like about Chinese women is their respect. Today while we were eating, I noticed one thing she did for me. She put ulam in my plate. We ordered Adobong manok, fried pusit, bicol express and steamed white rice. While I was drinking, I noticed that she took the initiative to put the ulam in my plate. Even before she put some in hers.

Ingon ko niya, "You don't have to do that..."

Ingon siya, "Its okay, Lorenzo, its the traditional way...."

I could not help but smile. She's so very beautiful. Chinese-Filipina.

I am contemplating about getting a new SUV. I think its time I get rid of my Mitsubishi Montero Sport for a newer SUV.

I was seriously considering getting the 2012 Land Rover LR4, but I am dissauded by the numerous reports of engine problems. So, I am now on the fence.

The other make and models that I am considering right now include:

1) Toyota 4 Runner
2) Nissan Pathfinder
3) Infiniti FX35
4) Volkswagon Touareg

I'm leaning toward the Infiniti FX35 tho:

It's cross between SUV and luxury sedan. One thing I like about it is that it is All wheel drive, it has excellent mileage as well. I'm planning to stop by the Infiniti car dealership sometime this week to get a test drive. And to get the price specs.

Thanksgiving Dinner is over. Today was spent with beautiful and wonderful friends. This entire day was spent prepping for Thanksgiving Dinner , which started when I woke up at 9am in the morning. I had a good time with my good friends and some colleagues at work.

Going to bed na. Tomorrow I have an interview. Afterwards, I want to spend the whole day on reviewing na pod.

The time is 1:23 am. its odd that i feel so awake , despite the fact that i've been up since 3 am yesterday. i have been up now for close to 22 hours. i was supposed to leave at 12, but was asked to stay in to cover for someone else. so, i did what a foolish intern would do. i said, "sure! no problem."

Yesterday was an AMAZING DAY! I attended an 8 hour-long Pulmonology Conference. We had top knotch docs, many of whom were the Directors of the Pulmonology Departments, some were from Henry Ford Medical System in Detroit, some were from Duke University Hospital, Cleveland Clinic, Swedish Health Center , and one was from the Jewish Hospital System in Denver. Amazing. One thing that I learned in that lecture was the profundity of the new EBUS system, which uses new techniques in robotic radiology oncology for treatment of lung cancer. We were given a lecture also on the new techniques by gamma knife, as well as cyber knife, and the new SBRT techniques to identify tumorous nodules and excise them when they are but only 2 - 2. 5 mm in size. These new EBUS systems , however, cost $100,000. One of the presenters had also talked about the expansion of the organization's interest into the emerging markets -- ASIA in particular. It is apparently interesting to know that in China, there are over 360 million smokers there who smoke over half a pack a day. This is hazardous and is of concern for the Chinese Government.

I was able to meet the Director of the Pulmonology Department at Henry Ford Hospital, a pre-eminent hospital system from Detroit, Michigan. We shared a brief conversation during the breaks in this 8 hour conference.

The conference started at 8 AM, and did not end till 5 PM. It was held in the Intercontinental Hotel in Rosemont, Illinois.
