One has to be selfish before he could be selfless...

Natural man jud na pre, for a person to be selfish--kai gusto man jud na ang tao--anyone--in any society and in any time--to get something to benefit him/herself so as to propel him/herself in his/her society, diba? Kinsa man dili gusto maka profit--or maka succeed? Kinsa man gusto ma poordoy sa kalingaw? Human nature man na, in my opinion.

It is the concept of human morality and ethics--when a person chooses to repress his selfish needs and instead of caring for himself first---considers the people and society around him as prime directive.

@ Frank. Good point--and I do agree, there are ALOT of people out there that only live for 'ME/ MYSELF/ I'. I personally abhor people with those kinds of attitudes and ethos, as I've come into contact with many in my life, already.

But I agree with Junyag.

In a way.....only. Not really what the words say.

When one is "selfish" means being in the moment, sort of "selfish', that you don't need anything.
Kind of like, when one is in prayer, one is "selfish", centered within and not spreading yourself all over the place. Meditating.
Then true selflessness comes with being in the present moment.
Not to be "mean and selfish" and then selflessness comes.
A little tricky with words.

Good that you cleared what you meant--I interpretted what you said differently. Sill, tho, good points.

the trouble with words is that we tend to use them in a way to fit our own agenda.. i think we should act out how we want our words to mean... that way there will be no confusion. :)
I'm gonna take my cross and carry it... heck! I'm even gonna dance while i'm doing it!

it is like.... you cannot love others or give love to others if you don't love yourself first...

how would others believe you that what you are displaying where in fact you are not advocating it?....

junayag

yes, what an outsider's impression on us is not a factor... it is how our heart dictates...

hazel

It really doesn't matter what people will say about you as long as deep in our hearts, we know what we do is right and is for the common good of every one.

Being selfish to oneself is being selfless.

junayag

yes ginger, we have to fill in our needs first before we could successfully fill the needs of  others...

junayag

in our present lives YOU CANNOT BE A DEVOTED GIVER IF YOU HAVE NOTHING TO GIVE.... hence, you need to fill in first yourself and when its up and won't overflow you give it to others...

it you talk about sainthood... only few are destined to be like them and they're exceptional... there times were of  different from today... and the factors confronting it also follows... hence, that sense of meeting own needs is selfishness but it is not the "extremities that we've thought of"....

Happy

Sometimes I'm selfish, if I don't have enough to share. Sometimes I'm selfless too, I give what I have to others even if theres nothing left for me..

Ang pagka selfish ug selfless sa tawo, para nako, depende kung unsang butanga ang iyang gi share ug wala gi share.

am with you Franklin, taking care of ourselves is our foremost priority because it is a manifestation of loving oneself... the issue is we cannot be effective in selflessness if we haven't gone through the process of loving oneself, one family first....

junayag

mao nga dili effective ang preach sa uban o magpasunod kon tan-awon ilang kaugalingon nga wala man gani magsunod sa iyang gipanudlo.....

hazel

mao na giingon, practice what you preach.

junayag

but there are circumstances baya nga dili maperfect....

hazel

adto na pud ta sa, no one is perfect...hehehe

Happy

mao nay giingon nga, follow what I said, but don't follow what I did.

it is really getting into the vicious cycle of being human....hence, we have to capitalize the good and noble ones....

hazel

diba sir, ingon pa gani ka nga we have to multiply the good ones...btw, hero na ka sir...

junayag

it's YOU guys / gals in TB that made a HERO member...for without YOU all, I would never felt the essence of my presence here....

hazel

you're a born hero, sir! (di naku mag junayag kay maulaw ko, you deserved to be called sir)

junayag

i've gained insights through this forum through your ideas, being candid...we've gained respect because we know how to respect ourselves, our shortcomings and for being imperfect....

hazel

thanks, sir...we are like a family here...i can see myself as a different person had i not found Tubag Bohol.

junayag

i felt that belongingness here, and I'm glad I've met beautiful people who are selfless in the real sense of the word...for i could feel how all your heart speak...

junayag

hi franklin,
just go on crying... cry your heart out for it cleanses the soul....and make a good start.... should you had dwelt on something that haunted you...

junayag

touching other's lives and or being touched by someone (not physical) in the innermost core of your being means there is an unconscious part of our lives that remain unresolved....hence, we react in different ways....
