My friendster inbox has been flooded with screaming "Pleasseeeeeeeeeeeee ASAP....this was in the news blah blah blah...." with prophetic urgency of "forward this and forward that blah...blah...and in return you'd be rewarded by Bill Gates and all the Who's Who of America with bags of U.S. dollars (why not Euro?) for forwarding the message..." This absolute non-sense is all the same with "Allen, Friendster Manager (kono) asking you to forward this and that blah blah blah"...

Let's forgive ignorance, anyway. A congressman in the U.S. was duped by a Nigerian scammer this year. He gave his $3 million dollars to a Nigerian businessman (kono). You are all to familiar with Yahoo e-mails coming from Africa, telling you that he or she is dying and all the blah... blah...and that he or she needs you to be the "sole" beneficiary (ka-jackpot noh?) of his/her tons of gold and diamond. Many, including a U.S. congressman, have believed this fraud. I am sorry for humanity.

I've just seen an unknown friendster friend re-posted this random thought of mine. Bisan wala ko gi-point out nga maoy nagsulat, okay lang basta makatabang ko nga malamdagan ang daghang mga ignorante sa friendster.

Nakadawat sab ko ana sa ako yahoo, shocke ko oi kay ngano maghatag nag katigayunan, kung tinuod pa na, adto nalang unta sa pamilya... hasta kining mga tawo, ipangforward pa jud.. spam nuon to ako

I even reprimanded a close friend for forwarding me such crap message.

I told him: "You are a Christian and you are intelligent and you are forwarding this message to all in your lists? Where is your common sense?"

Parehas ta day Belle....pero daghan sa ako mga friend hasta nilang lipaya kaingon sila tinood nga nakadaog sila ug minilyon..

Received the same through forwarded emails.  At first, it appears very serious for it contains religious messages....just ignore those and never intent to receive millions and until now i think am safe and healthy a bit without that promised effects.

Human has  6 senses, but the 6th sense is not existing na daw this time...

To answer your question, the basic script for most of those messages is so old that it predates the foundation of the Euro as a serious currency, and as a result the messages are all denominated in US dollars.

Besides, the US Dollar is probably still the most universally understood currency.  If you're sending messages to Internet users globally, people in the US aren't going to relate to the Euro but people in Europe are still likely to have an idea of what a dollar is.

That being said, it does seem odd that we wouldn't see amounts in Nigerian Naira, since so many of these scams are out of Nigeria.  US$1,000,000 is 127,170,000 Nigerian Naria, so surely any amount of USD is going to seem much more dramatic when converted to valid local currency!
