My friendster inbox has been flooded with screaming "Pleasseeeeeeeeeeeee ASAP....this was in the news blah blah blah...." with prophetic urgency of "forward this and forward that blah...blah...and in return you'd be rewarded by Bill Gates and all the Who's Who of America with bags of U.S. dollars (why not Euro?) for forwarding the message..." This absolute non-sense is all the same with "Allen, Friendster Manager (kono) asking you to forward this and that blah blah blah"...
To answer your question, the basic script for most of those messages is so old that it predates the foundation of the Euro as a serious currency, and as a result the messages are all denominated in US dollars.
Besides, the US Dollar is probably still the most universally understood currency. If you're sending messages to Internet users globally, people in the US aren't going to relate to the Euro but people in Europe are still likely to have an idea of what a dollar is.
That being said, it does seem odd that we wouldn't see amounts in Nigerian Naira, since so many of these scams are out of Nigeria. US$1,000,000 is 127,170,000 Nigerian Naria, so surely any amount of USD is going to seem much more dramatic when converted to valid local currency!
