"Together we will meet our common problems and difficulties. With the singleness of purpose together we will overcome them", Bohol Gov. ART Yap qouted Former President Carlos P. Garcia as he spoke at the latter's 123rd Birth Anniversary commemorative program.
Gov. Yap in his speech emphasized the former President's legacy in always putting the Filipinos first. Putting it in the Boholano context, he enumerated his administration’s programs such as the modernization of hospitals, procurement of new building equipment, increasing the number of scholars, addressing the issue of water, suspending illegal quarrying, cleaning up the environment, planting more trees, promotion of agriculture, and expansion of the tourism industry as manifestations of putting the Bol-anons first in our consciousness.
Gov. Yap also acknowledged the people who made a mark and are making waves in the province and in the country in terms of music, food, culture, arts, and sports. Given the distinction were Dr. Esterlita Lim, Dr. Em-Em Uy (PAGPAKABUHI volunteers), Nestor Pestelos, Dalareich Polot, Joy Uy, Allen Varquez, Duke Miñosa, Vicky Wallace, Jammy Ungab, Bohol Transport Group, Bishop Abet Uy, Marianito Luspo, Alma Fernando Taldo, Gardy Labad, Vanessa Sarno, Dave Angelo Pacaldo, Lebron James Sarno, John Raphael Macaso, Julie Xeanne Ouano, Denmark Pacaldo and the restt of the Bohol Weightlifting Team.
The commemoration started with foyer honors, 21 gun salute and wreath laying ceremony, followed by a short program at the CPG Park. It was attended by the leaders and executives from the Provincial Government and City Government of Tagbilaran. The PNP, Philippine Army, Coastguard, National Agencies and employees were also in attendance.
