Chatto calls support for Mindanao quake aid
Bohol Rep. Edgar Chatto has appealed for compassion and urged the Boholanos to support the relief mission for the victims of the successive powerful earthquakes crushing Mindanao areas.
He reminded “how we were helped during our difficult time” when the magnitude 7.2 tremor devastated Bohol island six years ago.
Chatto was the governor when, on October 15, 2013, the province was hit by the mightiest and most destructive earthquake in its recorded history.
The congressman directly appealed, especially to his district constituents, to help generate donations in their respective localities to be sent to Mindanao.
This is also in support to the call of Gov. Arthur Yap, who was himself in Davao City and assured Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio of his and the Boholanos’ help.
The series of strong earthquakes affected a wide Mindanao area that includes the Davao region and North Cotabato province, among others.
Chatto supported the call for donations through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) under Dr. Anthony Damalerio at the Camp Bernido or the churches.
The PDRRM Council Command Center is also inside the Camp Bernido in Tagbilaran City.
Chatto was the governor, too, when Bohol sent assistance to Mindanao’s Marawi City, which was crushed to ashes following the terrorist siege.
Chatto said after the great Bohol earthquake, “our fast recovery would not have been possible without God’s blessings and the assistance from countless kind hearts all over the world, including help from the people of Mindanao.”
The unforgiving earthquake delivered Bohol to epic disaster and tragedy since the ruins of World War II.
“It is now our time to show compassion to the Mindanao victims of this tragedy,” Chatto said.
Meanwhile, the major earthquakes, not just aftershocks, hitting the same Mindanao areas in just two weeks have put to the fore the urgency of creating a cabinet for disaster management in the country.
Chatto has co-authored House Bill (HB) 00004 ceating the Emergency Response Department (ERD) and HB 00030 creating the Department of Disaster Resilience (DDR). (Ven rebo Arigo)
