Bohol Governor Erico Aumentado recently distributed checks worth a total of P.55 million to five new cooperatives as part of the province’s poverty reduction program.
The Bohol Poverty Reduction and Management Office (BPRMO) under Antonieto Pernia organized the cooperatives and trained its members in different skills to make their respective projects viable.
The administration of Aumentado and Vice Gov. Julius Caesar Herrera allocates a lump sum in the budget for training, capitalization and other activities to give additional or alternative livelihood to the Boholanos in the effort to put Bohol among the top provinces in the country in 2010 from its lowly ranking of Club 20 member – the 20 poorest provinces – when Aumentado first assumed as governor in 2001.
The move is also in line with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s 10-point legacy agenda that includes employment. It does not however mean job openings by labor-intensive companies alone but employment through entrepreneurship.
The five cooperatives received P110,000 each.
They are the Tambangan Loay Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MPC) in Barangay Tambangan and the Tangcasan Sur MPC in Barangay Tangcasan both in Loay town, and well as the Sta. Cruz Dagohoy Bohol MPC in Barangay Sta. Cruz, Dagohoy town. With the amount, they intend to establish consumer stores.
On the other hand, the Guingoyuran Dimiao MPC in Barangay Guingoyuran and Cambayaon Dimiao MPC in Barangay Cambayaon both in Dimiao town intend to put up consumer stores and procure farm supplies and inputs.
The BPRMO also monitors the cooperatives it assisted in order to enhance their strengths and support them in their weaknesses even as it continues to organize and develop more cooperatives.
