I study best in groups. Usually because whenever I teach a lesson to people, the teaching enforces the information. I recommend studying by yourself first, say probably 2 weeks before an exam. Review by yourself for a week of hard studying (4-5 hours a day; this is what I do). After a week of silent review, organize a study group; say about 3-4 people, not too much because too much can cause distraction, diversion to the purpose of the study.
When you're in a study group, entice members with questions, review the 'overall' summary of a lesson. Why things happen, where, how, what are the specifics. Help answer questions, as well as ask questions if you're unsure about things. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Believe me, you'll be surprised how you will find something out that you never knew.
The last month, I had an exam for Human Physiology, I tried studying only by myself, and I scored a 86%. On the second exam, I joined a study group and everything was clear. I scored over 10 points higher on the 2nd exam as a result. Had the highest score on the 2nd exam.
Like I said, you learn from your mistakes. Don't be afraid to ask for help.
I prefer silence.
Yep, group study definitely helps. It's one of the big thing I learned from studying here in the US, like you said Bran, it's one of the best way to improve exam scores. Just pick a group of people whom you are comfortable with. If you don't, it's not effective. And also, don't join when you're not prepared, you need to give inputs too not just by merely listening and nothing to contribute, it will be unfair for the others.
When I was in the Philippines - it's not common there having group study kay ang uban ija-ija-aho-aho OR walay mahimo kay mahulog man hinuon ug tabiay or nilibakay or manggi-inum hangtod mahurot nalang ang oras, walay natun-an.
