Do you read or study best in silence or in a place with background noise?
Romans 10:9

I study best when it's total silence around me.

I love studying at night, esp. from midnight onwards.

Everything is so quiet then, I get lost in my own world.

;D

When there is some background noise; not loud or metallic noise, but some kind of jazz or classical song playing.

Usually, the study groups we have are massage-oriented. After 3-4 hours of review, we all massage each other. Feels so good. Then we go back to studying again.

i prefer to study with music, not the noisy kind though (slow rock and/or pop music).  it helps me absorb what i have studied/read easily.   dili ko makasabot jud ug way music.

Lorenzo

I study best in groups. Usually because whenever I teach a lesson to people, the teaching enforces the information. I recommend studying by yourself first, say probably 2 weeks before an exam. Review by yourself for a week of hard studying (4-5 hours a day; this is what I do). After a week of silent review, organize a study group; say about 3-4 people, not too much because too much can cause distraction, diversion to the purpose of the study.

When you're in a study group, entice members with questions, review the 'overall' summary of a lesson. Why things happen, where, how, what are the specifics. Help answer questions, as well as ask questions if you're unsure about things. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Believe me, you'll be surprised how you will find something out that you never knew.

The last month, I had an exam for Human Physiology, I tried studying only by myself, and I scored a 86%. On the second exam, I joined a study group and everything was clear. I scored over 10 points higher on the 2nd exam as a result. Had the highest score on the 2nd exam.

Like I said, you learn from your mistakes. Don't be afraid to ask for help.

Yep, group study definitely helps. It's one of the big thing I learned from studying here in the US, like you said Bran, it's one of the best way to improve exam scores. Just pick a group of people whom you are comfortable with. If you don't, it's not effective. And also, don't join when you're not prepared, you need to give inputs too not just by merely listening and nothing to contribute, it will be unfair for the others.
When I was in the Philippines -  it's not common there having group study kay ang uban ija-ija-aho-aho OR walay mahimo kay mahulog man hinuon ug tabiay or nilibakay or manggi-inum hangtod mahurot nalang ang oras, walay natun-an.

Beth, you're so right. Specially about having some kind of knowledge about the material first before joining a study group. I can't stress the importance of study groups tho, they're a great shoulder to lean on when you're stressed.

Plus, its very motivating pood to be around fellow peers, seeing that they are stressed as you are, hungry in the middle of the night studying with you, laughing at jokes, killing questions, until the night before the exam, you guys stay up till 3:40 AM and call it quits because of overloading, hahaha. Good times. Good times.

The massage helps during that point; it helps relax the mind and think of something else besides the subject.

OT: Beth, what are you studying right now?

OT: That was 3 years ago Bran, I was studying Nursing for two years but didn't finish. When it was time for me to practice in the hospital, it took me ages to drive there, an hour half each way. So it became more stressful. And I'm married so I can't stay in a dormitory like you do. So I decided to stopped. I must say no regrets just happy to be out of stress.

I prefer complete silence kung magtuon ko, so most of the time, kadlawon jud ko mag study para ako ra ang magtikaw-tikaw.

hahahaha mao ba?! bitaw, accounting is more on essence gyud! mao na kung kasabot ka sa essence, no need mag note taking.

One thing I cannot stand whenever I'm studying is blatant talking; specially when the conversation isn't about the subject.

I have been to a study group once for a microbiology exam review a few semesters ago, and instead of reviewing, two of the people in the group talked about their plans for the weekend (the day after our scheduled exam).

I was angry at them, as I went there to help them review, so I said outright, "If you expect to pass this exam and enjoy the weekend, then I suggest you guys start reviewing and stop bullshitting right now."

We performed above par.
