Provincial and national health officials have placed the students of St. Paul High School of Inabanga town under close watch after they have taken random swab tests of 15 out of reported 32 students affected by flu, said Dr. Fruserma Mary A. Uy of the Provincial Health Office.
Uy, who headed the epidermatology surveillance unit, rushed to Inabanga last week responding to reports that students have been downed by A(H1N1).
She said in an interview that there were 32 students who showed signs of symptoms but this has to be checked.
She confirmed that 14 of more than 90 school children have been positive of the influenza A(H1N1).
This prompted school authorities to suspend for ten days classes of this school but set to be resumed on August 24 if situation improves.
But health officials downplayed the threat of the flu to allay fears that the spread was already at the "community outbreak" level, saying it was just a "mild A(H1N1)".
They are now fast recovering in self quarantine in their respective homes, said the health officials led by provincial health officer Dr. Reymoses Cabagnot in a radio interview.
PHO bared that the school kids were declared positive of the ailment as indicated in the results of the swab test taken from them.
