yes, these are just some of my super duper irings wa bidlia.  23 ni silang tanan.  gilaygit ang mga baye, gi-vasectomy ang mga laki.  usa ray nanganak, usa ra poy anak.  nalipat ko.  abi nakog gamay pa.  ay, na-teenage pregnancy.

my dog, gwendolyn (r.i.p.) knew how to shell and eat peanuts.  i didn't teach her that.  also, she didn't eat bread without coke.  the bread had to be dipped in coke first.  cute!

hehe, yes, our adorable Kaiser was no more than 2 years old when this picture was taken. This was taken 4 years ago.
This was when he was still sleeping in his own little 'dog bed', but now he has outgrown his bed and now prefers to sleep at the foot of my bed, or my little brothers' when given the chance. lol.

this is shy mamma mia, a female puppy (original owner unknown) that we "acquired" less than 48 hours ago by accident.  she strayed with her mother to a nearby gas station.  unfortunately, her mother left her there.  (thus her name, mamma mia.)

the gas station already has 3 big dogs, excluding those that come daily as visitors.  the big dogs showed hostility to this helpless puppy, which worried the station's staff.  they turned desperate when mamma mia was run over by a car.  luckily, she survived unscathed because she was positioned in the middle, between the wheels.  that was when they decided to pass this quivering, scared, and scarred puppy to us.  

but why us?  perhaps it's because every time i hear a dog yelp in pain, i at once run to the gas station to ask why.  (serves me right.)  

we can't keep mamma mia.  two rooms in the house are already occupied by 6 adopted cats.  besides, we're not staying here for long.  we wouldn't dare abandon pets, though, but neither could we afford the expense of taking home with us 6 cats and a potentially big dog.  (this early, i already know that it costs 200 bucks per kilo of live animal, including the weight of the pet carrier, in airfare alone.)  and there are already 4 dogs back home.  

but i'll do what i can for mamma mia; have her vaccinated, spayed, draw out her potential as a playful puppy, take away her fears, and convince her to trust humans.  then i'll look for the best home for her in a month or so.  

i believe it was mamma mia's mother who came to the gas station this morning to look for her puppy.  that dog gave me an idea of how big mamma mia would turn out, fully grown.  but how does one explain to a dog not to stray with her puppy to avoid the highway's dangers?  how do i tell their owner, if ever i get to meet him, to be more responsible and to exercise measures so their pets won't stray?

one day soon, mamma mia will go to another home.  a much better home, to be sure, because i will see to that.  already, i feel like crying.

Imagine she walk how many miles? Most neighbors is about a mile or 2 from us. By the way she had about 5 puppies. So kaming tanan sa among neighborhood 5 mile radius na surprise kay sa front porch man gyud niya gipangdrop iyang puppy. Angat pa jud to christmas.

p.s.  if you have the leisure, try helping yourself to the series of books of james herriot, an english veterinarian and writer.  i think he has more than ten books, but reading three of these would be heaven enough.  titles:  all creatures great and small, all things bright and beautiful, and all things wise and wonderful.  i just know these books (they're easy reading pocket-sized books) fit you, your lifestyle, and your world, the kind that i could only dream about.

Anne, Great Danes are beautiful animals, they are large breeds, tho. Like any dogs, they will be protective of their pack families (you and your kids), and are very great pets. They are a loyal and beautiful breed.

Thanks sa info. at least now I know medyo safe akong mga anak... the dog would usually sleep sa bed or sa sulod sa room basta puppy pa, thats i nag-worry ko kay i dont know anything about this breed.

i thought i will never open this thread again.

september 4, i posted mamma mia's pictures on this thread (reply #144).  by september 6, we lost her.

she was brought by our household help on her day off so she could play outdoors.  then she was gone.  i cannot explain the profound sense of loss i felt when the news hit me.  i cried the whole afternoon.

it took 2 days for 3 people to look for her, fanning out in the neighborhood, asking anyone of any possible sighting.  reports varied.  a car had stopped and a driver picked up something, though they could not say if it was a puppy that was picked up.  streets were checked for telltale signs of an accident.  none was found.  i was ready to place an ad in the local paper with mamma mia's picture and a plea to return her to me.

we lose what does not really belong to us, i thought.  and what about the original owner?  still, i wanted to know what really happened to this shy puppy.  i can try to be brave and move on after some sense of closure, i assured myself.

evening of september 7.  an unexpected knock at the door brought good news.  and bad news.

i'll be looking for a home for her eventually, anyway.  what else could i ask for now that she has a permanent home where she could be very well cared for?  but as long as i am here, i want visiting rights, i mean, mamma mia visits with us at least two days a week, i said.  if i have to, i can fetch her on those days and return her on schedule.

the other conditions i gave were that mamma mia should always be on a leash when she goes out, she sleeps inside the house, bones as food are no-no, and puppy food should be part of her diet, which i'm willing to provide.  

i slept well that night, happy that mamma mia is all right and that i will see her again.  but then i thought of that little boy and felt some pangs somewhere.  

Hmm. Of the four claimants (the original owner, the grandfather, the little boy, and you) I'm afraid you have the weakest claim, Ms. Isle. I guess you will have to content yourself with your mangy banana republic.

kalooy sa imong 3 kids.  i hope the owners of nicolai a.k.a. r2d2 are worthy of him.  that kitten could have caught deadly feline pneumonia if you were not there to fetch him from that cold ditch!  that's why i always have my kittens and cats vaccinated annually for feline pneumonia, rabies, and distemper.

one thing with kids, they recover fast.

25 september 2010, saturday.  i exercised my visiting rights with mamma mia.  we went to the beach.  it's fascinating how she has grown since i first saw her last september 4.

The newest addition to our pack in Tagbilaran, a black Doberman, whom I have named: Helmut Segundo.

He is the son of our 5 year old Brown Doberman, Zulu.

We have 3 dogs now in Tagbilaran: A German Shepherd (Maximus), A Doberman (Zulu) and our little Helmut...

He was 4 weeks old when this picture was taken. I named him, and made sure my little Helmut received his shots, and de-wormed. He is so precious. He would sleep in my Air Conditioned room when I was in Tagbilaran. Cute kaayo.

Kaiser is such a handsome dog, and my dad wanted to name him accordingly. He named him after the German Kaiser.

Kaiser Wilhelm. 

I suggested we name him Franzheinrich Rommel.

I joked with my dad in naming our dog. I requested that we name him Maha Chulalongkorn, after the Thai King Chulalongkorn the Great.

Walay effect. He preferred 'Kaiser' instead. lol
