My thoughts on the catastrophe that hit Japan
« on: March 15, 2011, 04:44:20 AM »
My thoughts:

Where did this come from? What just happened? My mind reverberates on the rhetorical: "how could this happen to Japan? Can this happen to Japan?"

Of all the countries in the world, it is Japan that is most prepared for such calamties such as tsunamis, earthquakes, etc. It was made known to me in a report from ABC that the Japanese have an advanced emergency plan that sends out messages via electronic communication to all citizens in cases of imminent natural catastrophes.

Yet despite this. Despite such structural engineering that prepares and boldly stands up to nature, the tsunami occurred.
As of right now, the Japanese authorities are estimating that over 10,000 are dead. I read reports that the Japanese are cremating dead by the dozens and that the crematoriums in around the region of focus are beyond capacity. Over 100,000 Japanese soldiers are apparently being deployed to the center and the areas hit by the catastrophe.

Everything seems to be normalizing now as help and reinforcement are coming in. Yet, still, i cant help asking the same question, "Did this really happen?"

I guess, it is true that no one, no people, no nation, can be truly prepared for nature's fury. Man's technology and advanced systems, which Japan clearly embodies technological precedence, cannot stand up to Nature's Fury.

The whims of nature teaches us to be humble.
Japan knew that their country lie in a very precarious fault. They were so cock-sure of their technological know-how and advancement, now comes a mjor earthquake  and a tsunami beyond our imaginations. The rest is history.

This is damage in epic proportions. The 2004 Asian Tsunami that devastated Indonesia (over 150,000 dead), Thailand, Burma, Bangladesh is still fresh in my memory.

I was reading a news article online that said that the prefecture that the tsunami hit hard had suffered massive losses. In one town, half of the inhabitants are either dead or missing. Many reports of villages being completely erased from existence. Many of those villages are hundreds, if not thousands of years old.

How powerful -- The Hand of God. How powerful is God in His Fury.

This looks more like an African war zone instead of Japan.

This looks more like a result of a military bombing than a natural disaster.

Smoke rises in an industrial complex at Shiogama, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan.

Here is a worst case scenario;
An American nuclear expert says radiation from Japan could spread across the Pacific and reach the United States if a complete meltdown occurs at a Japanese nuclear facility damaged as a result of last week’s earthquake and subsequent tsunami.

Nuclear expert Joseph Cirincione of the Ploughshares Fund says Japan’s nuclear crisis is in a critical phase.
