How kind are you to help your niece. Know that it brings a sense of relief in knowing someone cares and offers to assist in whatever way. Its unbelievable how much work is placed on a medical doctor, let alone, those who proceed into research, where there is so much focus on collaborative work. I raise my cup of coffee to her, as one doctor to another. Tell her that these are all part of the "beautiful struggles."

Well, at least that's what I remind myself when I have moments of doubt and say, "why am i doing all this for?". All for the Glory of God, and to the dispensation of my skill for the benefit of my brethren who need of my arts. Remind your niece that. As a surgeon, she has a lot of responsibilities and a sacred one at that-- to be, literally, the hand that saves those who have entrusted their health and care unto her. This is part of the collaborative dynamic between the physician and patient relationship.

The path of a doctor is never an easy one. But by God's Grace, if all the struggles we endure will allow us to provide care for the patient, to ease their sufferings, then by goodness,...let the doctor struggle all the more. And in humility let the doctor know that we are under protection of the Divine Physician himself, Christ Jesus.

Truly, Tita, bless your heart for helping your niece. And let me reiterate my many thanks for the times you have helped me edit my papers here. :)

Semper,
Lorenzo

I just submitted another doctoral paper. I was working on that paper for the past week, and Thanks God I finished it today and capped it at 26 pages. Now, here is to Dr. Mark finding it satisfactory. The topic was on individual coaching, group coaching and organizational consultation within the health care administrative spectrum.

These past few weeks have been very busy for me. Everyday from Monday to Friday I go to the hospital from 7 am till 5pm. Then on Monday and Wednesday i teach math for health care professionals at one of the city colleges in chicago from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Topic that i taught today was on calculation of anion gap, serum osmolality, calculated osmolar gap, and medical conversion units. My students, who are all enrolled in the BSN / RN program were whining about why they need to calculate anion gaps.

I told them, "You want to be a nurse, the dispenser of medications and the hand of the physician's order. With that role comes great responsibility. If you cannot calculate simple drug calculations, you can be a liability to the lives of the patients and to the will of the physician whom you will work with."

They ceased their whining immediately.

And I said to them, "From now on till the end of this course, I will not permit any one of you to use calculators."

"I want the best, so I expect the best out of you nursing students."

I hope i wasn't too hard. But, in my opinion, with such a role of a Registered Nurse, one has to master these skills. I hope they understand I am doing this out of Love for them.

----

I had a long day. I feel so tired. But I take comfort in my relaxing night today. God is Good.

i am addressing this to mobile phone servers in the philippines with the hope that one, even just one, employee of these servers get to read this.  and i mean GLOBE, SMART, and SUN. >:(

DO YOU REALIZE THAT YOUR PESKY UNWANTED ADS THAT YOU TEXT, UNBIDDEN, TO YOUR CLIENTS, ARE THE BIGGEST TURNOFFS OF THIS DIGITAL AGE?

oh, i've tried those suggested numbers that we're supposed to contact if we didn't want any more ads (or announcements or some other euphemism), but still i keep getting these pesky messages disguised as coming from another number or another program or gimmick from these servers.

HEY, I'M PAYING FOR YOUR SERVICES!  MUST YOU FREELOAD ON MY PAYMENT, INVADE MY PRIVACY, AND RATTLE MY PEACE JUST SO YOU CAN BLOAT YOUR PROFITS?

one thing with this digital age is that basic manners and respect for paying customers have become strange words for those who profit the most from it.

the truth about these servers is that a text message costs only .35 centavos.  they charge 1 peso.  fine, they have facilities to maintain, employees to pay, and profits to protect.  but it looks like they are increasing that 1 peso to 5 pesos through these ads... greed knows no bounds. >:(

some years back, i got a text in my roaming number congratulating me for winning a 6-figure money prize because my mobile number had been chosen among millions of numbers... too good to be true.  i wasn't born yesterday but on the other day, hehehe.

i take care to stress here that it did not come from the server but from a conman (servers use only 4 digits; the text that i received came from an 11-digit number sent by a lawyer, kuno.)

it was too good to pass up.  "congratulations!"  i answered back.  "you just won the privilege of claiming my prize.  go ahead, it's all yours."  that made my day.  i hoped it made the conman's too.

yehey! i'm happy. they had a sale on ipads at the local apple store in lincoln park, chicago. i am a new owner of the latest generation of ipad. and boy o boy is this machine quite handy for me. this makes inputing information for work, reviewing patient files, so much easier. it beats lugging around my laptop. now there's more room in my briefcase for other paper material. hehe.

;D

this friday afternoon is quiet. as i type away on my new ipad (it came with a cover case and keyboard ;) ), im sipping my cup of mint tea at a local cafe in downtown chicago. as i daze into the reflection of the skyscrapers piercing through the glass window, i am elated to see the bright sun shining outside. alas! wonderful and beloved spring, you have finally graced this city with thy tempest warmth !

tho i had a long shift this morning, im happy that work is done. its friday!

Such a nice day today. I'm at my study desk at work, enjoying my cup of coffee. One thing is missing. No one to enjoy it with.

There are benefits to being a single professional , such as a liberated life to spend on professional and academic pursuits. However , there are some days when one feels lonely.

As I sip my black coffee , and begin to write with my physician's pen , the thoughts of her come to my thoughts. Be gone from my thoughts, Darling, you haunt me so...

such thoughts and feelings can still haunt us even if we're beside our special someone, lorenz.  it goes to show that redemption is a very personal commitment.  or so i think.  smile.  you're a great person.

out of nowhere, thoughts on my exchange with our 12-year-old came back, days after ash wednesday...

girl: where's your ash mark, mom?  auntie's is dark.  it means she has more sins.

me:  and where's yours?  did you have it at school?  i don't see it; it looks like you erased your sins.  come on, tell me your sins.

(she then turned around and ran away from me.)

i'm reminded once more to learn to shut my mouth at times and make life less difficult for our little girl.

hehe, i think that's natural. daughters, in my opinion, are generally more attached to their fathers.

sons, on the other hand, are more attached to their mommy. i should know, i'm a mommy's boy. the same with my 2 younger brothers. og naay problema, mommy dajon. don't get me wrong, i love my dad. :)  :-*

i understand, lorenz.  sons and fathers relate differently, no matter how close they are.  but sons, for mothers, will always be babies. ;D

as for the opposite... my siblings had always believed that i'm the papa's girl.  i can't help it.  he always took my side.  besides, i was the one who made him laugh the most.  he passed away in 1999.  i miss him.

Hehehe. Don't you know our parents' love is eternal?

A mother's and father 's love is but an example of God's love for us.

I know you miss your papa. But you should know that your papa loves you and even now still loves you. Death does not separate that love. For Love is....Eternal. ;)
