Perhaps you have mis-interpreted my point on the matter regarding Marcos, which you have brought to this thread.
But let me clear this for you.
Yes, I understand that Marcos' had a substantial negative effect on families, and on the government. I never once said that I completely pardoned his actions, nor did I say I accepted such. I reiterate, I agreed with the popular consensus that he did abuse his power.
I, however, admire his intelligence, his quaint nature, and the vision he had for the country during his earlier term (prior to martial law, prior to Imelda's involvement power). I admire his positive message, I admire the faith he had in the country in his 1st term and even 2nd term.
There are certain characteristics that I admire of Ferdinand Marcos; not everything, but certain. Specific.
The man, like any other man, had his strengths, his weaknesses; the goods and the bads.
What I'm trying to share with you, and others who mis-translated my admiration for Marcos is that--I admire the President that He Could Have Been.

you don't have to defend or clarify yourself to me on this matter. i know where you're coming from, when you express your points, that are intuitive and academic.
besides, don't believe that i was referring these words (you quoted from me) to you or my misunderstanding of your position. i was simply replying simplylee's posts. in my honest self, i never implied this to any individual, let alone name names because i would be unfair to the concerned. if it does get to your nerve, it is not in my intent.
since you address this to my attention, let me just express my own. the recent ambience of the discussion of the thread on Marcos may have surprised you. for that i understand. you may have felt that you're misconstrued, no, you aren't. i think the problem is that you may have underestimated the extent and profundity of the sensitivity underneath the issue, although he's been long gone and dead. the words in your analysis and comparisons fail to do justice to the hurts and wounds left by that regime, which i always believe, is the precursor of the ills of the present state of our nation; it feels to me adding insult to injury. While your words paint an intelligent, visionary, quaint, Machiavellian, etc. sort of a man, it looks to me like a haunting shadow of a diabolical past. your admiration against the disappointment; your erudite analysis against the profound experience of many.
i wonder why that thread goes that far. in my part, there's no more point of arousing a delicate discussion when you're enjoying the benefits of exercising the brain, while i cannot without injuring the cicatrix of a wounded past. you've made the points of your admiration; i have made mine, i suppose. Yes, He Could Have Been. He could have been....And it remains that way because he never was, to me.
