Brothers and sisters,
Is there ever a time in your life where you doubt yourself? Where you think that your abilities will not come to par with the expectations of others, and with the responsibilities of the day? I'm sure even the greatest of thinkers and philosophers, scientists, poets, doctors, lawyers, to even the skilled carpenters etc doubt sometimes.
We doubt because we are unconfident with ourselves and our strengths due to the gargantuan task before us. Maybe it includes 50 some ledgers that an accountant has to finish in 2 days, perhaps its fixing a broken building wing for a skilled carpenter, treating 5 patients who are waiting for care for a doctor, or even, perhaps, its dealing with financial situations-- money problem, debt, lack of capital, etc.
Any of these can reduce a man , even with strong spirit , to doubt as well as avoidance of said problem. Why even great men of the Church such as St. Peter, St. Paul, St. Thomas, themselves doubted and questioned their own faith. These are apostles, who tho were filled with celestial joy of the Holy Spirit, were weighed down by the human limitations and preponderance to doubt. As doubting and questioning is part of the disposition of being man.
What I learn in reading the Holy Bible and from reading the lives of these three apostles is that there are instances that we will be challenged by the world, where our faith and our faith will be questioned.
Don't let the doubt overcome you, brothers and sisters. The world may overwhelm us at times, sure, it even did for the saints, however we have to find the strength to carry the day. Because in the end, the carpenter builds the house with the help of other master carpenters; the accountant finishes his 50 or some ledgers , with the help of another coworker and blessed with hot black coffee. The doctor , with the help of residents and medical interns will see 20 or more patients in that time frame she was given.
Just as Peter, Paul and Thomas , themselves particulary doubting at first--but trusted the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit, to guide them and to work in them, despite their human frailties, were able to accomplish the Will of Jesus Christ: To Spread the Good News.
Brothers and Sisters, don't doubt. Don't let the world overcome you.
Remember that Our Lord Jesus Christ has overcome the World. ---
Jesus said unto them: I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.
-John 16:33
