Alfredo Hubalde played college ball for the Mapúa Institute of Technology before eventually moving on to play professional basketball in the PBA in 1975.
Freddie Hubalde started his PBA career with the Crispa Redmanizers, and he was part of two Crispa grand slam teams in 1976 and 1983.
He was a silent type of player but reliable offensive player who could easily turn the game around with his deadly shooting both from the perimeter and in his later years in the PBA, He can drained from three-point range too.
He became famous for his off-the-glass jumpers
(Pa-Banda Na Tira) and his patented move of tight undergoal stab (Padukot Na Tira)
On defense, He utilized his patented "back tap" stripping the ball from the player guarding him.
He was the 1977 PBA MVP, Freddie Hubalde played for Crispa on that year and he played a total of 64 games in 1977 season and he averaged of 17.28 PPG.
When Crispa Redmanizers disbanded at the end of the 1984 season, Hubalde and other Crispa teammates like Abet Guidaben, Padim Israel, Tito Varela moved to Tanduay Rhum Makers in 1985 and transformed the team right away into a playoff contender. Tanduay made it the semis twice in 1985 season.
In the 1986 PBA 12th season Reinforced Conference (1st Conf.) He and Ramon Fernandez and with supporting casts of shooting guard Tony Torrente, point guards Willie Generalao and Onchie Dela Cruz forwards JB Yango and Padim Israel and imports Rob Williams and Andre McKoy, finally they gave the Tanduay Franchise their first ever PBA title. With his steady play and clutch shooting, again he led Tanduay to its second championships in the following conference, by capturing the All-Filipino Title at the expense of Robert Jaworski and Ginebra San Miguel. Hubalde had his bright moments for the franchise, contributing 21.2 points per game in the All-Filipino conference..In the particular game of title-clinching game, he calmly sank two free throws off a Jaworski foul in the waning seconds to win the game for Tanduay Rhum Makers.
In the 1987 PBA 13th season, they dominated the 1987 Open Conference
(1st Conf.) with former Boston Celtics David Thirdkill as import en route to Tanduay's 3rd championship in the last four conferences.
That would be Freddie Hubalde 16th and last championship..
(He won 13 with Crispa and 3 with Tanduay) in the PBA, making him the second winningest player (16 titles) behind Ramon Fernandez 19 titles.
When Tanduay Elizalde owned franchise announced that they are taking a leave of absence from the PBA, Hubalde was one of the players acquired by New Team Purefoods Hotdogs, He played only 2 conferences for the Hotdogs befote he transfered to Shell in the 3rd Conf.(Reinforced Conf ).He played for Formula Shell up to 1989. He last played for Añejo in 1990. Overall, He played 16 seasons in the PBA.
