Sec. Abad leads Visayas launching of pre-school education nutrition and feeding program
Iloilo City (29 June 2005) -- Education Secretary Florencio “Butch” Abad will lead the Visayas Launching of the Pre-School Education, Nutrition and Feeding program at the Jaro I elementary School, June 30, 2005.

Sec. Abad, together with the city Mayor Jerry Trenas and the Department of Education officials, will participate in the feeding of 196 nursery and kinder I and II pupils of Jaro I Elementary School, who will be provided with fresh milk and coco-buns.

The activity is the start of a year-long feeding program for all pre-schoolers of DepEd managed PTCA funded school numbering about 2800 and pre-schoolers of Baranagay Day Care Centers and 10,774 in the Division of Iloilo City. Other recipients will be the identified malnourished Grade I pupils in all public elementary schools.

The program is funded by the Special Education Fund (SEF) of the city costing about 1.5 million pesos. For the year 2005-2006, the SEF provides an equity of P100,000 worth of Fresh Milk provided by the National Dairy Authority (NDA), while the Philippine Coconut Authority supplies the coco-bun.

The Supplementary Feeding activities include serving of fresh cow’s milk and coco-bun daily for 120 feeding days while other district schools will be served with hot noodles and milo or chocolate. The feeding is served during breakfast, complemented with learning good habits and values, like washing of hands before eating, observing proper eating habits and table manners and brushing of teeth after eating.

The Pre-School Education and Supplemental Feeding Program is part of the government’s move in incorporating pre-school in the education ladder to encourage early childhood development. This program is implemented on the premise that “well-nourished children can perform well in school and will have the capacity to absorb information and to learn skills better than those who are under or malnourished. John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
