A month ago, i walk pass Belderol street and saw a restaurant under construction, just to know its an Indian Restaurant, its like an answered prayer for us spicy food lover. Now, its like our second kitchen. The food is really good and affordable too. The Indian Curry House specializes in Indian Cuisine but they also serve Filipino dishes. The restaurant was opened up two weeks ago. Cesar Montano dined with foreigners there last Friday night. The owner name is Sam and he is so friendly and enjoys entertaining his guest very much.

The place also serves Filipino dishes. The fresh foods are prepared by Sam's very cute and darling cook wife.

There are also three rooms available for rental in Kareoke singing. The food is super delicious I am guilty of eating they're twice already.

They also make to order breads from India to help you in eating your spicy foods.

They serve a delicious dessert popular in India after eating hot spicy foods.

The owner is also the same owner of the electronic store in Agora Square market.

The owner Sam goes out of his way and treats a customer in how they should be treated not like some counted weighed out portion with a high price.

They serve all types of rice including India yellow rice, herb rice, plain rice etc....

It is located on upper Belderol Strt. about one blocks distance from the front doors of Plaza Marcella.

Good ambiance and it shows you just how much more foreigners will go in pleasing their customers in a family owned business.

Surprisingly they have a Filipino cook, he is a HRM grad here in Bohol but was a cook in an Indian restaurant before in Cagayan. He is so friendly, he comes out of the kitchen and talk to the customers and make some suggestions.

Indian cuisine are really very good and delicious.  I like and love it but quite expensive in our place.  Mostly their restuarants were closed.

i hope this place doesn't close too soon. someone describe the place when a streamer was installed to announce that they are open for business: "gilangaw" kuno (in an idiomatic sort of way)... it turned out that there were hardly any people during the first couple weeks of business operations. the only people that could be seen kuno were the waitresses who were all standing outside the resto waiting for customers in full gear and menu in hand amid loud pop music blaring from their sound system.

A foreign cuisine resto such as this Indian restaurant would really make Bohol more cosmopolitan. I hope they improve their marketing so that this restaurant will be viable in the long run.

By the way, did I see a Thai resto somewhere in Tagbilaran? Is it still operating?

I will not deny that Indian cuisin has changed my cooking style.

Since starting med, and since my friends are Indian/Pakistanis over here, (majority of US med students are South Asian, white, and a pocket of us Fil-Ams), Ive even added curry to my adobo chicken.

A friend of mine, Sidrah, taught me how to cook Chicken Biryani (and I use halal chicken) lol! Ever since the spice introductions, ive added curry (just a dash) to my chicken adobo. It adds a little 'umpffft' to the flavor.

The bay leaves makes the taste come out tho. Definately. :)

Plus, the "protectionistic" mentality pud sa locals. Ang Tourism office pud unta nato dire motabang og promote aning mga lugara pero be it the city or provincial tourism offices I've noticed that both offices are "reactive", not "pro-active". If only they can adapt what Cebu is doing then we'll see better days for these establishments.

Dili ka ka expect sa locals nga mosulod ani nga restaurant for the food bisan pa  nga affordable kay most have not been exposed to foreign cuisines with the exemption of those who have been out of the country and tried all sorts of food og kadto sad mga chili lovers. I noticed pinoy food are not hot at all unlike the neighboring asian countries nga anywhere you go, food will always be spicy and its up to you to tell them not to make them hot. Kay kung ako wala pa ko mostay in Thailand for sometime, i wouldnt have the chance to experience and appreciate spice. It has changed my outlook food wise. Me and Steve are trying to bring our friends and advertise the Indian Curry House para pud sad the business will last kay nindot baya sad ning naa tay kasuroyan sa atong mga bisita nga something different. In fairness the food there are really good and affordable also. The last time we ate there, there were 5 of us and we ordered a lot plus pila pa to ka bottles of beer for the boys, we end up paying 1200 pesos only.

Benyl-Next time I go there I will write down some things on the menu and post them here.

Yes there is Muton on the menu and there is also fish curry. :)

the Thai restaurant is no more the owner of the place was treated poorly by no other then the city mayor according to him and he lost a lot of money when he had poured thousands of pesos into his restaurant,

He was shut down along with all the other businesses here and up and down that side of the street.

The India Curry Garden is a brand new building but the neighborhood needs some cleaning up around it.

I can not believe the city mayor discontinued sky's the limit bar b Que for Andocks which is just a more modern version of skies the limit with a higher priced menu beer drinking and smoking going on just like at Bojols Grill.

Just a few family dining restaurants to really take your family too with out having to expose them to the tavern scene of these other places just mentioned.

Thanks for posting this, Mari!  I like Indian food or any food from different cuisine for that matter but when it comes to Indian food I always have to ask the waiter to tell the chef to go easy on the spices. Just like Thai food, they get too spicy!

Again, thanks Mari dear!

What spices do you need, dear?  I know it's easier to just go to this indian resto but if you wish to cook for yourself, what spices do you need aside from curry powder?  Can we easily buy curry powder in our stores there?

I have this Indian friend who always order cakes from me - two are wedding cakes.  Although strong ilang color choice, chada gihapon and I researched more about Asian Indian cultures to understand more about them.  Two weeks ago when I made this wedding cake, nabuang ko'g tan-aw sa ilang mga attires as in super beautiful!  Nan, going back to Indian food, I really like Indian food but as I said dili nko ipa spicy kaayo!

Do they have samosa and naan bread, Mari?  I make those stuff but it's sometimes good to just go to the Indian resto!  I look forward to going home kay murag medyo diversified na diay kaayo atong food diha.

Maayo ni imong gibuhat an imong gisugdan ang pag advertise!  Good job, girl!

Whenever I have a cook-out with my friends, or attend a pot-luck event, I usually bring the favored Chicken Adobo, and since my colleagues are mostly South Asians (Indian or Pakistani-Americans, their tongues usually are used to hot foods). To ammend this, I've added curry to my dishes, its actually made it taste better. Adding a bit of curry (yellow curry) to menudo or pang care care actually works; even as much as adding a little bit of sprite or 7-up to it (ive learned this vis-a-vis my father, lol).

I agree with you tho, Mari. Filipino Food, naturally, is very sweet or sour, or salty. With the herbs and favorite spice of black beens or bay leaves; our dishes are more opined towards Spanish cuisines. Its a mixture of Chinese and Spanish ; with the Spanish presence in our marinades undeniably present.

I must admit tho, the Chicken adobo is a favorite for some of my Indian and Paki brothers and sisters. They love it. And I, have become used to eating extremely spicey foods, though having antacids and milk and yogurt on the side works too. lol!

Sri Lankan food, however, is too spicey for my tongue.

I trust you must love eating tum yung gong?

hehe

I don't know, but for me, what makes Indian food different from ours is only the curry and the yogurt. I am somewhat a sort of a culinary practitioner (cooking is one of my most effective stress reliever, second only to playing soccer). As for the "spicyness" of these oriental food well, my barometer for spicyness is somewhat higher and Thai, Indian or Singaporean dishes are for me well...okey. Ive' tasted a true blue (I think) Bicol Express composed of 25% meat for flavor, 75% sili for the sting. Kon magtagbo ang sip-on og luha, manghapdos akong tinae og makaligo nakog singot sa kahalang, mao gyud nay "really hot and spicy".... ;D

I don't know, but for me, what makes Indian food different from ours is only the curry and the yogurt. I am somewhat a sort of a culinary practitioner (cooking is one of my most effective stress reliever, second only to playing soccer).

I trust you must love eating tum yung gong?

hehe

g*** naglaway ko dong when you mentioned Tom Yum Gung, i miss it. Dunno how to cook it, i wish i could, if i could some of the sagbot are not available here also

Ang Asiatika in Metro Center is serving Thai Food but lacks the kick. Lahi ra ang lami. I tried their Tom Yum Gung. Mura rag tinunuan na medyo halang. Nagluspad lang ang agi. Kulang sa spice. I dont even see the galangal.

Any curry-dishes is exotic to the taste; even the Malaysian/Indonesia Goreng Karee is pretty exquisite.

Its a mix between Adobo and Care Care, though with more curry and more peppers.

Filipino dishes are more akin to Spanish/Latin dishes, imho.

Ours is a Europeanized version of the Asian dishes. lol.

Yes Indians are called "Bombay" by Filipinos. It's either because of Mumbai, formerly called Bombay - the capital of the Indian State of Maharashtra or just because they are spicy like onions (commonly called here in Pinas as bombay)

mao lagi, ang mga pinoy kai conservative man gud ta; especially atong taste. Gusto ra podo ta ug Pinoy food.

Everytime we go out as a family, my parents only go to Chinese or Japanese Restaurants or sometimes Italian pero mao ra jud na. Dili sila mo try out sa gawas --if they do very rare ra jud.

My sister did tell me that just recently they went to an Indian restaurant close to our town. My siblings loved the food, and my parents liked it as well. Pero this is probably the rare instances of them trying anything outside the norm, hahaha!

hahahaha!

---

On a serious note tho, the owners need to invest in advertisement techniques. Hope this restaurant stays afloat.

mao jud na dong Lorenz. My parents are the same, basin daw kung tua na sila sa restaurant dili sila kauyon sa food. What i did is cook some foreign food in the house when they come to visit me, just give them a go for it so that next time they wont say no if we will try something different

unlike filipinos who are unsure of their identity, indians know their history and are proud of their identity. this is the reason why we never see filipinos wearing traditional clothes or even modern versions that carry design elements of traditional clothes. but indians today still wear the salvar-kurta (baggy pants and shirt) and sari ( a single piece of long cloth that they wrap around their bodies that make up for the blouse and skirt) that their ancestors have been wearig since time immemorial.

based on personal experience, indians don't shave. specifically, female indians don't shave anywhere in the body where there is hair.

Yea, the traditional ones definately.

But you have to know that Indians are a multicultural pot. Different ethnicities, languages, races, languages, religions all under one nation: Mother India.

You have the Assamese and Nagas of North eastern India that are more akin to Burmese, Chinese and other Mongoloids, then you have the Bangalarum of West Bengal who are more of a mixture of Dravedic and Mongol. Then if you go north of India, there are the Punjabs and the Kashmiri, who are more Caucasian in phenotype; more akin to the Indo-Aryan beauty of Persia. Then if you go to the southern tip of India, of Malayalaam and Tamil Nadu, there are the dark skinned Dravedic peoples, the original Indians. Or if you want to go central plains of Uttar Predesh, a more mixed bunch.

Indians vary in appearance, language and looks. A nation of over 1.1 billion people.

The nation boasts having Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Jains, Jews, etc all under one nation. --> Hindustan or otherwise known as India.

The more modern Indians ; more liberal and open to new trends are the Christian Indians. Even the Muslim Indians.

The more conservative and religious are the Hindu Indians. Especially the ones that are more in line with their Caste System.

Here in the United States of America, the Desis (slang for Indians) are more modernized, open minded. They keep their culture but have assimilated into the Western Society that is America.

So, not all Indians 'don't shave'.

Its impossible to generalize a people that numbers over 1.1 billion.

Same as how we, Filipinos, don't want westerners to generalize Filipina women and Filipino men, we should also share that idea when regarding other peoples.

Kon magtagbo ang sip-on og luha, manghapdos akong tinae og makaligo nakog singot sa kahalang, mao gyud nay "really hot and spicy".... ;D

Try Vindaloo, one of the hottest or even so Phall, the hottest Indian food. It is claimed that the name is derived from phallus to signify the machismo of a man who can eat such hot food.
