but isn't his money mostly electronic though? I mean, stocks and shares...

the billions of dollars in his name, dili man na cold hard cash...they're stock values...

so If Microsoft stocks were to plummet (murag pareho adtong nahitabo sa enron), the bulk of his billions is gonna go poof!

Maajong gabii diha, willmerit! Napalaw man ko ganina nakasayo ko mata because I thought karon na mag start ang Fall Back. Our cable company already changed the clock sa among machine and in fact the tv skeds were changed accordingly. Natingala nlang ko that our cphones and computers didn't change the time. Next weekend pa man jud diay mag change. Anyway, ga plano nko humanon nko akong LBC boxes para mapadala nko on Thursday, daw beh kay na hungog naman sa TB! Katulgon na gani ko kaayo karon! For me, my kids are my most valuable possession and they are worth all the money in the world, including those under production. Probably the length of that money would reach pluto or perhaps planet X and back.

I was trying to find an article which I kept some years back. It was about two mathematicians who made a formula on how to determine the amount of happiness and convert it in money value. Like for example how much is the happiness you gain from staying in a 5 star hotel compared to a 4 star hotel. Then you will know if the money you spent is worth the happiness you gained.

I forgot where I saved that article.

Further, here are the questions: What Bill Gates is up to with all the money he got. Does he care about it? He is saving his money for what? Did he realize that even if he would party every hour in fabulous hotel, he would die of old age before he could consume all of it. Then what is his point of being a workaholic and avoid fun? Who are the heirs & heiress of this money?

About the formula to determine the amount of happiness, I don't think I have read that but I kind of think that's similar to how Bo Sanchez, a Catholic preacher in the Philippines said about richness. He said something about having a big house and you don't have time anymore to spend with your family because you are busy working to keep up with the mortgage. Further, dili dayon mo magkita sa inyong pamilya kay daghan man ka pa ingnan sa balay. Whereas kon gamay na balay, magka tapod jud ug maka bonding. He also used cars as a basis for his assessment. You buy a nice car dayon magkaguol ka na makarasan, not to mention the cost to but it. Ug makarasan imong car. Basta ana tong iyang theory.

I know a couple back in Cagayan de Oro na dako kaayo ilang balay. When they were fighting, one can stay in one room and the other in another room. Dugay jud sila wala gaka reconcile kay dili man sila magkahinagbo sa kadako sa ilang balay! Pero sa among gamay na balay sa una, mapugos mi dumog sa una kon naa mi away kay aron mahuman dayon ba! Mo ingon na gani na among inahan na "hala niay sundang, pag tagsa mo! " Ngano kaha pod to mangundang mi'g away! hahahha but if we had big house then na as big as to have more than 14 rooms aron tag isa mi, dili siguro mi as close karon.

But 2 slices max is about all I can take in one sitting, that's my "happiness ceiling". Now, will it make me happier if I eat the whole cake? or 2? or 3 cakes? Pareha ra pud na sa kuarta, there's a certain ceiling for everyone, after which, extra money won't really make that much of a difference. Motuo jud ko anang hierarchy of needs (Abraham Maslow), when we've fulfilled all our needs, that'll make for a happy existence, and anything extra is just a bonus.

I have an uncle who grew up dirt poor but got wealthy later on through hard work, he works 24/7, sleeps only 5 hrs max, but he's very generous. Daghan kaayo siyang natabangan nga tawo. Right now, daghan siyang gipa eskwela nga among mga parente. A lot of his employees are working students. Daghan syang mga gi sponsor pud nga pari. When I see him, I see a happy man. He lives a simple life himself but he uses his money to help others. His wealth serves a greater purpose.

On the other hand, I know someone who's extremely wealthy. But his family life is so chaotic. He's a drug addict, his son is a drug addict, his wife is a beeyotch and they fight all the time, it's just one big mess. And despite his wealth, wala jud siya'y natabangan nga tawo. He lives in a palatial home, everytime I saw him (sa Pinas pa), he had a new car. But his life is all about drugs, booze, whores and a lot of other nasty things. He is one of the unhappiest people I know. And I think it's because, for him, having money is an end in itself. It serves no greater purpose in his life than a means to acquire more material things...really, how many houses can a person have? how many cars? how many millions in the bank?
