Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger of California has moved to end a budget crisis by sacking 22,000 state workers and ordering pay cuts for 200,000.

The most populous state in the US faces a budget deficit of more than $15bn (Â£7.6bn), and legislators are struggling to agree a spending plan.

The cuts, which will save $100m a month, are designed to put pressure on politicians to end the budget crisis.

But a leading official in the state challenged the decision to cut pay.

California has one of the largest economies in the world and it has no way to pay contractors for many of the services it provides.

Some 30 American states face budget deficits caused by rising costs and falling revenues in a slumping economy but California's is by far the largest. - BBC News

I feel bad for the hundreds of homes being burned down as welll from the ravaging California fires.
Its been a bad few years for Califrnians all around as they have experienced job loss's, floods and fires and have had their fair share of bad weather!

My husband and I both work for the state of California and we are not safe either. We might lose our jobs! Ako nalang hangad sa Ginoo jud.

As part of my job, I'm one of those people who audit contracts pero I'd rather not say anything kay basin madiskumpiyado ako trabaho. I'll better keep my mouth like this

Yes Ms. ystesski how I'd like to file my retirement but I'm not yet at that required age. We had a program we called it "Altes teilzeit".
but they stopped it at the moment. It means....they will send off the employees with a monthly salary less than 10% as what they are subject to receive monthly and this payment is continuous minus the vacation money and Christmas bonus and other social benefits being employed but still insured (medicare and etc.) until the titled issuance of gov't. pension arriving that pension age of 60. But the German government used to change their laws and policies in this connection. And besides, we have also an extra pension from the Co.

I am sure, it is not a problem for you and your better half to look for another job. Or it is really hard at the moment?

My heart goes to Californians. The same can be said here in New Jersey, alot of job terminations. This is a nation-wide problem.

Economy is lagging, unfortunately. Let us hope it gets back in the right shape.

Hopefully after the elections.

maapektuhan mi Maring kay kung i-enforce nga kinahanglan ug mag cut 10% ug employees like for every agency, kami ni banana ang first in-line matangtang kay pareho man mi nga last na hire sa kanya kanya namong office. He started 3 months earlier than me bisan pag 2 years nami kapin sa State ga work. Gani pangtangtangon na ang mga retired annuitants, part-time workers, ug mga student assistants. Although, our boss is still insisting that he'll keep everyone pero kay diha naman gud Executive Order from our Big Boss nga si Ahnuld basin mahitabo jud ni. Although, it's not that easy kay our union is protecting us but still if worst things happen, kami ni banana jud mauna matiguk sa trabaho.

Banana ni Ate Ging ug si Tia Edna safe na sila kay sobrang 10 years naman sila sa serbisyo sa State.

Yeah, pirme naay rally Bem. My office is just one block away from the Capitol na naa ang office ni Ahnuld mao nga pirme hibaw-an nga naay rally. Our union always email us to join the rally but I wasn't able to join because I'm busy doing year-end stuff.

We just hope and pray that we keep the jobs but if things happen...oh well, mouli ug manginhas sa Bohol.

California State Controller John Chiang is defying the order of Gov. Arnold to cut the salaries to the minimum wage until state budged is enacted. So right now, wala pa jud ni. However, if and when madayon, State Departments which are deemed essential to public health and safety are exempted from the pay cut. Mura'g gubot ra kaayo. Mura ba'g gi hostage ang sweldo sa mga state workers para mapadali ang pag balanse sa budget.

Exactly, Maring. The impeachment of Davis was successful because the CA's coffer was in red already. Arnold was able to suppress the bleeding, I supposed, but I think something can still be done, budget-wise. It's tough but we are in financial crises right now, not just California but the whole country. Anyhow, I think there may be state jobs that are unnecessary na dapat i kaltas but reducing the salary is not gonna make things better for California. Naa man ni domino effect dayon sa economy sa California kay makuhaan man pod ug purchasing power ang mga katawhan. Down the line, mosamot ra hinuon kalisud California. But what do I know.

Ay mag hinay hinay na tingali mo ug sakay sa train ni Manong Murage balhin diri, hahahha kay di kaajo mahal diri...and besides Manong's Job can be accommodated all over the country! Kanang job ni Manong di mahimo nga i kaltas kay tubig kana Inday! tubig is the source of life!!! ug i kaltas ang tig atiman sa tubig basi sudlan sa mga bungoton butangan ug usa ka tulo nga virus!!! it is just a matter of one drop of salmonella virus Tiya. That really worries me a lot. Maajo gani naa na silang Manong nag monitor ana kanunay!!!
