Snowstorm Left Washington D.C. Without Power
« on: February 07, 2010, 11:29:39 PM »
Hundreds of thousands of people remain without power in Washington DC and nearby states after a blizzard blanketed the area with record snows.

Electricity was cut to at least 300,000 homes as the snow felled trees, and cut power lines. Emergency workers are struggling to restore power.

Washington got up to 2ft (61cm) of snow, one of the heaviest snowfalls in decades.

The storm disrupted transport from West Virginia to southern New Jersey.

A record 3ft (91cm) of snow fell on Maryland.

Washington DC, Virginia and Maryland have declared emergencies, allowing them to activate the National Guard to help cope with the wintry onslaught.

Some 300,000 homes are without electricity in Maryland and neighbouring Virginia - the two states which bore the brunt of the storm.

Another 250,000 customers were hit by blackouts in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, the New York Times reported.

Pepco electric company said its workers were scrambling to restore power, but warned it could be a few days before everyone was back up.

"We have a lot of scattered outages and the road conditions are not really working with us," spokesman Andre Francis told AFP news agency. - BBC

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

i hope that this particular weather event sends home the message to the american leadership that they should and must sign and commit to the agreements and principles of the kyoto protocol in order to bring down to a considerable level the emission of carbon dioxide and other green house gases into the earth's atmosphere. the US is probably the worlds' largest carbon emitter in terms of per capita consumption of fossil fuels.

Right now sa naapektuhan sa snow storm ilang dapat i worry ang heat nga dili sila ma froze to death. Unya hope ma restore dayon ilang electricity kay ug dili perti kadakong damage jud sa balay kung ma frozen tong mga pipe ma busted man to.
Nakaexperience ko diri ug ice storm nga na cut off among electricity. As in hadlok kaayo knowing wala nay heat ang balay. But we are few of the lucky people nga bisan wala mi power we have big generator nga enough nga mo power sa tibuok balay . We keep extra generator so bisan among silingan among gipahuwam labi na tong naay livestocks. Hadlok kaayo ning mawad an ug power unya tugnaw sa gawas.
