Rear-end collision kills 1, injures 9 in Ho Chi Minh City
HO CHI MINH CITY, Jan 4 (PNA/Xinhua) -- A container truck on Wednesday morning crashed into a median strip on an expressway in Vietnam's southern Dong Nai province, and then got hit by a coach, killing one person and injuring nine others, the provincial police said.
A 52-seat coach registered in central Binh Dinh province hit the truck's rear and then overturned, injuring 10 people in the coach. Of the five severely injured, one died in a hospital in Ho Chi Minh City.
Unable to avoid the overturned coach, another coach, also registered in Binh Dinh, was stuck at the accident site.
The expressway, running through Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City, allows a speed of 80-120 km per hour. Some 45,000 vehicles run on the expressway each day.
A total of 21,589 traffic accidents occurred in Vietnam last year, killing 8,685 people, severely injuring 6,180 and slightly hurting 13,100 others, said the country's traffic police department. (PNA/Xinhua)
