 CLARK, Freeport -- Three lucky overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) received "Pamaskong Salubong 2007" gifts from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) at the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) on Tuesday.

Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) president Victor Jose Luciano named the three OFWs as Dominique Tominez of Quirino, Isabela; Mylene Corpuz of Pozzorubio, Pangasinan; and Fe Gonzales of Nueva Vizcaya.

Both Tominez and Corpuz arrived from Singapore aboard a Tiger Airways aircraft, while Gonzales arrived from Kuala Lumpur on an Air Asia flight.

Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) president Reynaldo David awarded a multi-cab vehicle as top prize to Tominez while Corpuz received a pension plan amounting to P50,000. Gonzales on the other hand received a nine-cubic feet GE refrigerator.

Actress Cassandra Ponti assisted the OWWA staff in distributing the awards and other consolation prizes to the Filipino workers from abroad.

Luciano lauded the OFWs for their great contribution to the country. The bulk of OFW remittances are keeping the economy afloat, according to national government officials.

Luciano said DMIA will soon establish the "Global Pinoy" lounge where incoming and outgoing OFWs can avail themselves of free services and food.

Most of the OFWs in nearby Asian countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Bangkok, Macau and Hong Kong are passing through DMIA because of the presence of budget airlines.

"Our Filipino workers heading overseas no longer have to travel all the way to Manila to catch their flights because DMIA is right at their door step," said Luciano.

"Cheap fares also allow our beloved OFWs to go home as often as they want," he added

Last year, three other OFWs were also given prizes during the "Pamaskong Salubong 2006." - Sun-Star Pampanga
