No More Editors in 2020? Death of Newspapers?

Editors will go the way of the linotype machine. Increasingly, human editing will be viewed as an expense and a delay that few can afford. Algorithms, editing software and seach engines will handle much of the work. Communities will bounce around the stories and edit in their own way. In this sense, newspapers will become more like blogs.

A few premium publications will remain edited. And lots of us will flock to them and pay a hefty price, because human editing, when done right, remains a wonderful thing for readers.

If you want to see what the writing looks like without editing, pick up a book. Oh, you might come across one that has actually been edited. (I have a very active editor at Houghton Mifflin, I'm happy to say.) But many books are given a quick line edit and published. From what I've heard, many in the industry are convinced that the key to selling is the concept, the marketing, the blurbs on the back cover-- and that editing just isn't worth the investment. A lot of other print industries, I'm convinced, will come to the same conclusion.

Romans 10:9
"That if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved."

The position of editor may become a thing of the past but I hope human editing will continue.  Otherwise the quality of thought of what we're reading will quickly deteriorate and we'll soon be reduced to using "Wow! That's amazing!" for everything that astounds our by-then limited intellect.

Use it or lose it also applies to our brains.

:'(  Sadly, it is.  There are people who don't even care about what they are thinking or saying or of the effect that it will have on society.  But I am hoping that this situation is still reversible. :)

Like me, Mr Sigbin, I don't know what I'm saying most of the time. Ang naka nindot lang, dili ko politiko, so akong mga yawyaw wala ra'y ma affected.

Hahaha!

Bitaw na igo ko sa imong gisulti, kay kaning akong utok murag 2% nalang capacity ani, mao na I will start reading Ms Belle's suggested book, Why Men Love Bitches. I am hoping to reactivate my brain.

Basin pa diay mahimo kong genius like you, Mr Sigbin.

Ngeh! :-\

"Why Men Love Bitches"?  I don't know about that.  I would leave the literal bitches to the dogs.  A figurative bitch to me would be someone whose personality is a lot like Malu Fernandez's and I certainly wouldn't want someone like that.  Personally, I like nice girls who can be naughty. :D
