Harsh treatment of immigrants in Australia
« on: August 31, 2007, 01:18:02 PM »
The Philippine Government has called on Australia to modify its 457 skilled visa scheme after the Herald (newspaper) exposed the illegal treatment of immigrants, including two Filipinos who died in workplace accidents.

But the Immigration Minister, Kevin Andrews, defended the visas yesterday and insisted the workers could freely complain about their employment conditions - a claim directly contradicted by a metal fabricator who came forward to say his boss threatened to break his legs and send him "back to India" when he asked for overtime pay.

Mohammed Nayeem, 45, from Singapore, told the Herald he had been forced to work 50-hour weeks but only paid for 38, and had $100 a week deducted to share a two-bedroom converted office space with five other workers while working at a construction firm in western Sydney.

I had a friend and co-worker while I was still with SABIC ( one of the world's largest petrochemical company ) who left for Australia to work, but after a year, he opted to return as the "racial discrimination" he said was so prevalent ....

but this notion was changed when I met 3 Australians in Brussels who became my friends (even travelling, staying, eating together until Paris}.  I openly discussed with them about being "racist" as they say, which prompted them to invite me to visit Sydney to see for myself....

And my understanding, anywhere in the world, you will find racists... even in my own country,Philippines.... why, could you see them???

look around you.... our very own tribes....

tinood gyud ni siya sir!  bisan asa dapita dili jud mawala ang racial discrimination.  dire sa akong nahimutangan karon, daghan kaayo kog nailhan nga mga pinoy na modiscriminate sa mga kapwa pinoy.  moattend ug get together parties kay para lang makaanha sa balay, motan aw ug unsa ang imong pagkabutang.  then after sa party, molakaw dayon ang sugilanon nga ang balay ni so and so, puro junk, or hugaw, or kayamukat, etc.  daghan jud na dire sa north carolina.  purya gaba mga pinoy raba pod ang ilang gitamay.
