HTC is the de facto king of the Android phone, and has consistently pushed the limitations of the platform to its limits, creating fantastic smartphones as a result. Their latest efforts has produced the HTC Desire, and as you'll find out in this review, the product is truly deserving of the name.
The Desire has close ties to the Nexus One, the so called "Google Phone", and it's only expected as they are both made by HTC. They both have the same 3.7-inch, 480 x 800 pixel AMOLED capacitive touch screen, powered by the same Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 1 GHz processor and posess the same version of the Android OS - 2.1 Éclair.
The Desire still has that signature chin that previous HTC smartphones had, but it's much more subdued, and is barely noticeable. The home, menu, back, search and a clickable optical trackpad all reside on the chin, while the volume rocker sits on the left side. The build quality is top notch - no cheap plastic here - and suede-like material on the back allows you to get a nice, solid grip on the Desire, essential since the 135g unit isn't exactly light. The whole package measures in at 119 x 60 x 11.9 mm, enough to sit snugly inside your pocket. - press release
