What makes Inday Rufing tick
true, 15 may 2008 issue

Wake uppers:

•   Food for the soul: Always stretch your heart and expand your love, so that it touches not only those who you give it to, but also those who need it so much.
•   Happy Father’s Day to our dear tatay, itay, papa, itang, papskie, papang, dad, etc. Let us honor them for making a difference in our world...A woman named Sonora Louise Smart Dodd heard a sermon on Mother's Day, she decided fathers should be honored in the same way. She especially wanted to pay tribute to her own father, William Jackson Smart, who had reared his six children by himself after his wife died in 1898. In the USA, Fathers' Day is celebrated on the 3rd Sunday in June since being made a national holiday in 1966. In Australia and New Zealand, fathers are honored the first Sunday in September. Other countries celebrate fathers throughout the year. This Father’s Day, let us remember the father’s role. Let us actively engage him in this day-to-day process of parenting. Let us stand back so he can take charge and do things his way once in a while. Let us see his parenting style as a complement - and not an opposition - to our own. Let us celebrate our fathers and honor them for making a difference in our world.
•   Feliz compleaños to Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)- Siquijor boss Nimfa Virtucio, June 1; Tagbilaran councilor Djingo Rama, June 5;  provincial veterinarian Stella Marie Lapiz, June 9; veteran journalist June Blanco, Arino Udtohan, Engr. Jerome John Gabin, June 12; Vice Mayor Toto Veloso, June 13; and provincial board member Corazon Galbreath and Axa Angelaine Berdin, June 30. The same felicitations to SK Tagbilaran federated president Rammy Alturas, June 19. It’s another year, wisdom for Rammy, and hopefully, he will be serious to attend SK sessions and activities.
•   The governor is scheduled to be out of the country for one month starting June 14. What happens to the contracts of services of the workers at the Capitol up for renewal by July 1? The contracts need the governor’s signature. Would it mean another famine period for the Capitol workers under contracts?
•   Mark July 19 a very special day as Lazer Party Club of Bohol Tropics will give you a back2back concert of young female star Kim Chiu (who admitted that she had a crush on Baba Yap, the Lazer Party Club manager) and MYMP. Kim is a young sweet girl in show biz and Make Your Momma Proud or a lot famous as MYMP is the author of the sweetest, softest and most soothing music the Philippine Music Industry could have. Pairing up the guitar work of Chin Alcantara and the most angelic voice of Juris Fernandez is truly heaven’s work. Donald Fuertes, the Lazer Club event coordinator says, “Boholanos could expect great music and pleasant times both with their wonderful personalities and their heart-warming songs. Ticket is pegged at P200. For inquiries and reservations, please call Donald at 0917-327-6888.
•   True’s story last week about our young Boholano achievers, that is, including Rosa Isabel Mutya Buena, an international singer and songwriter (who’s part then of Sugababes) were honored in a musical video prepared by the Sangguniang Kabataan Bohol Federation headed by Jane Censoria Cajes. Mutya’s dad, Roberto “Jun Bert,” who’s in London saw the video in the internet sent this email to True: Thanks for the info about Mutya being on MTV honouring young Boholano achiever she is planning to do some concerts in Manila and Cebu in months to come as preparation for the tour will take at least 6 to 8 months respectively. Hopefully, in Bohol!

Years ago, radio listeners in the Visayas and Mindanao were entertained by these two gay radio personalities:  Lady Artura of dyWS (whose famous line was “nah halaa”) and Inday Bambina (Dindo Eliseo in real life) of dyHP whose famous line was “iring gilaygit.” They became famous and they spelled out opportunities that gays could be in the media industry.

Those were the days my friend because Lady Artura’s career ended, while Inday Bambina continues to give us updated tsismis.

Fastforward, if you’re tuning in on dyRD you’ll hear this famous punchline: Babush, ginamush, tugnush…these lines are from Inday Rufing who is trying to tickle the funny bone in Bohol. These are gay lingos, babush means goodbye, ginamush is a fermented salted fish and tugnush is several hundred cute and defenseless baby anchovies.

Yes, he is very notorious in Tagbilaran City that everyone loves to call him with fondness. His program on dyRD (everyday, from 11am to 1pm) is loaded with tons of greetings from readers worldwide.

Born as Rizalino Torralba, like other gays, his life is colorful as a rainbow. Being gay isn’t that adopted in the traditional society nevertheless he enjoyed his childhood years. He spent his teenage years (and until now) joining beauty pageants. He adopted the name Ruffa (after actress Ruffa Gutierrez).

Titon, as he is more popularly known by close friends has gone a long way from being a classroom teacher whose only desire was just to share his knowledge and entertain people.

In 2006, when a program Bisaya was vacated in by Cristala (who’s in Suquijor teaching), he tried to apply just for fun.  “I just apply when a friend told me to”, Inday Rufing recalled. He chose the screen name DJ Ruffa, but the name wasn’t a click and was changed into Inday Rufing.

‘It was a Bisayan program and DJ Ruffa is so English…to blend it with the program Sir Peter (Dejaresco) suggested Inday Rufing and I took the name gladly,” he said.

But fate took its own course and paved the way for Inday Rufing to follow a successful career in radio hosting.

A born comedian, it was inevitable for people to notice Inday Rufing innate talent in making people laugh. He’s invited to host fiestas, gatherings and other occasions.

What Inday Rufing has become he attributes to his determination to better himself and improve on his craft. His love for teaching and hosting never left his heart and it never will.

“I still love teaching and hosting,” he shared.

He also said that he has no time management, he just love and enjoy his work.

“As long as I enjoy what I am doing, I can’t feel boredom,” he said.

Inday Rufing is figure conscious. After all, he is a beauty queen winning gay titles. “I just eat when I feel hungry. And when the more I eat, the more I exercise,” he said.

He has a natural beauty and his skin has never been “enhanced” by the modern technology. “I’ve never been into seeing a dermatologist. I’m contented with my skin. I just use soap,” he said.

He doesn’t apply moisturizer but he’s using glutathione (the super antioxidant) and placenta soap products he’s endorsing.

What Inday Rufing does is take an ordinary situation and bring it to an extreme level of absurdity. His diverse background (as a teacher) allows him to relate to Boholanos.  He does a lot of “adlib” onstage giving each show a very personal and interactive feel. He bridges the gap between different people and cultures through laughter.

His life is full of dramatic highlights and he has developed deep insights into the type of comedy that clicks with Boholanos. A key ingredient, he said, is: Be yourself.

Until when he will remain hosting? “As long as the people need me,” he answered with a laugh.

Raped
There will be no blind items needed when Inday bares all the details of his life.

There’s no dull moment if you’re with Inday Ruffing. You’ll laugh your heart out when he says something.

But the gay Inday Rufing has a shocking revelation for the first time when he confessed that he was raped (not by a male fan, but by a female friend). And he has a two-year old son. (This is not a romantic movie but its true there are cases were women rape men.)

“I was raped when I was drunk,” he narrated. The so-called “forbidden” affair happened.

So, his joke that his “junior,” which is 4 by 2 is not sleepy most of the time is true. He laughed and corrected me, saying, “it’s not 4 by 2 but 4 by 4.”

he was raped by a girl..and the affair resulted into a son.
