Lakas-Kampi consultations kept in wraps?
Published: November 19, 2006 by The Bohol Standard
The announced consultations among members of the ruling Lakas-Kampi political party yesterday was tightly wrapped that no outsider was certain what was discussed during the gathering.
Members of the media who went to the People’s Mansion to take a look at the gathering of politicians and their handlers were disappointed after being told it was a closed-door meeting.
Expectations run high that party bigwigs would resolved internal conflicts as various elective position for the coming may 14, 2007 elections are being contested by administration party candidates themselves.
Some aspirants were earlier reported intentionally boycotting the consultation as the idea of putting up a convention to select the party official candidates was leaked earlier.
Determined candidates saw no point in participating in any convention knowing that those who would lost in the pre-selection would disregard the party will and would run in the elections anyway.
In a telephone interview last night, Bohol Gov. Erico Aumentado who is also the Lakas-CMD party chairman for Central Visayas said the gathering yesterday was not actually a party political consultation. It was a meeting with local officials to forge a common effort in sustaining the present gains of the province like the overseas assistance it got and the numerous awards it received.
The governor said party consultations will be done by districts and this will be conducted before Dec. 30.
