8 Filipinos, a Boholano among them, join ranks of international franchise professionals (Philippine Star, March 10, 2009)
MANILA, Philippines - Eight more Filipinos joined the 2009 elite roster of newly-designated Certified Franchise Executives (CFE) in a graduation ceremony held recently at the International Franchise Association’s (IFA) 49th Annual Convention in San Diego, California. This brings to 27 the total Filipino CFE graduates since the course was introduced in the Philippines in 2001.
PFA president Robert F. Trota (president-Max’s Restaurant), who represented the Association at the biggest franchising gathering in the US, led this year’s pool of graduates from the Philippines which include Elizabeth Pardo-Orbeta (Wendy’s); Consuelo Santos (Jollibee); Virgilio Espeleta, a chemical engineer from Getafe (Julie’s Bakeshop); Rosalinda Deres (Goldilocks); Christine Casanova (Francorp); Emmanuel Viado (Julie’sBakeshop); Mercedes Pascasio (Francorp); and, Federico Moreno (Ystilo Salon).
The CFE graduation is integrated in the 49th IFA convention which had former President Bill Clinton as keynote speaker. Held at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego, this year’s gathering was attended by more than 3,000 international franchise executives and enthusiasts. PFA, being a member of the World Franchise Council, was invited to participate in the IFA Convention.
The CFE program which is run by the Institute of Certified Franchise Executives (ICFE) under the US-based International Franchise Association (IFA) is a mini-MBA in Franchise Management, a professional development program for franchise executives. Outside the US, PFA was the first institution accredited by the ICFE to offer some of the courses in order to earn points for the completion of the program. At present, more than 50 Filipinos are enrolled in the program.
