assuring her friends that she's in a better place now. how thoughtful of her.
i remember the last time i saw arlene at Swedish Hospital. I had visited her with my friend Elenita and Mrs. Enriquez after attending the Feast Day of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. I had attended that Feast Day to pray for Arlene and deliverance for her in her moment of pain.
when we drove to Swedish Memorial Hospital, we found her in room 214. She was sharing a room with another person. When my eyes made contact with her, the first thing i noticed was that she was on a respirator, she had been battling respiratory pneumonitis, secondary to her lung cancer, which had caused her very low O2 levels.
I could see that she had problem / difficulty breathing. but she , being the arlene that she was, was too quick to talk to me and elenita and mrs. enriquez. I squeezed her hands tightly, and clasped my other hand on her little hand. Arlene said to me, in her very motherly voice, "Oh Dokkk...you came to see me?"
I smiled deeply. Tried not to cry. I squeezed her hands very tightly. And smiled some more while looking at her eyes.
Arlene was a strong woman, such a strong woman. In her final moments, she never was on any pain medication. Not even when she went into coma.
That short little lady (she was 4'11) was stronger than even the biggest men i've known. She passed away softly and peacefully the afternoon of July 29. Surrounded by her doting and loving husband Ray, and her son Francis.
I know her soul willy fly quickly to heaven. She was a very good , loving and God fearing woman.
