German Police Officer Arrested in Alleged Cannibalism Case

A 55-year-old police officer has been arrested in Dresden, Germany, after allegedly confessing he killed a man he met on a cannibalism website. The victim allegedly wanted to be killed and the police officer, whose identity has not been released, apparently chopped him up and buried his remains in different places around his garden. The 59-year-old victim apparently “had been fantasizing about being killed and eaten by someone else since his youth,” Dresden’s police chief, Dieter Kroll, told reporters at a news conference, according to Deutsche Welle.

The handwriting and document analysis specialist was arrested Wednesday and confessed that he stabbed the victim in the throat on Nov. 4, hours after the two men had met. Still, the alleged perpetrator vehemently denied he ate any part of the victim’s body. And while there is no evidence of cannibalism police say they are suspicious because there are body parts missing, reports the BBC.

If there was indeed cannibalism involved it would mark “the second known time two German men met on the Internet and engaged in a cannibal-fetish murder,” notes Der Spiegel. An infamous 2001 case made headlines around the world with the arrest of Armin Meiwes, who killed Bernd Jurgen in a specially designed room after the two ate Jurgen’s severed genitals with salt, pepper, wine and garlic .
