Sir or Madam:
I am currently working on a documentary and I need interviews with historians that are well versed in Philippine history and also Philippine/US relations. The synopsis of the documentary follows:
"At dawn, on December 16th, 1944, Lt. Charles "Chuck" Hartman ran out of fuel on a return from a bombing run in the Philippines. Chuck was able to control the crash into the ocean, hitting approximately 100 yards off the shore of the island of Bohol. Floating in his raft, the young pilot spotted several dark figures with machine guns gathering on the beach. His .45 in hand, Chuck planned to make a suicidal attempt to fight what he perceived to be Japanese soldiers. The figures then called out to him in English, revealing themselves as Filipino guerrillas.
Lt. Hartman would spend three weeks stranded on the island of Bohol, hidden in the town of Valencia. For a people that thought they had been forgotten by the Allies, this young man became a symbol of hope.
60 years later Lt. Chuck Hartman returns to the island and the people that protected him. We will follow Chuck as he rediscovers his past and we will also uncover the long, complex history between the USA and the Philippine people. In a different time and a different war Lt. Hartman finds himself once again becoming an unlikely ambassador."
