The church in Valencia was constructed in the beginning of the 18th century (early 1700s) by the manual labor of the people of Valencia, under supervision by the Royal Spanish Audencia, under command by the Viceroy by Imperial Mandate. Hundreds of our fellow Valencianon ancestors gave their sweat, blood, and for some their lives in the construction of this church.
The Church in Valencia strongly resembles the Baroque styles of the Cathedral in Leon, Spain.
Many of the Spanish priests and monks that joined the Franciscan and Dominican order were from Leon. And as a result, when they established their parishes in the Philippines; in particular Valencia-Bohol, they modeled the churches as those in their home regions.
This is what our church was modeled after:
La Catedral de Leon, it was built during the reign of Emperor Philip II, Ruler of the Spain and her Overseas Possessions.
It is amazing how though time has passed, empires rose and fell, however these churches still manage to survive to this day. In Leon, and in Valencia, Bohol.
