Fire Incident in Ubay Bohol

The Office of the Provincial Fire Marshal headed by SUPT. PEPE G. REBUSA ha stepped up its investigation of the fire incident that transpired in Ubay town last February 1 after the Municipal Chief of Police issued a conflicting statement estimating the damage to have reached around P8 million in a local newspaper, becoming an issue to some radio programs in the city.

Provincial Fire Marshal Rebusa who conducted supervisory scene inspection and investigation clarified that as per the spot investigation report of the investigator-on-case of Ubay Fire Station, the said fire have an estimated damage of only P800 Thousand more or less razing down 1 residential and 3 mixed occupancies. The fire started at the second floor of the 3-storey building owned by Mrs. Tita Acedo alleged due to electrical short circuit.

Fire investigator, FO1 Jesus Ananias Salinas Jr. told the Provincial Fire Marshal that one SPO2 Rotol of Ubay PNP came to the local fire station asking for some data to include the estimated damage incurred which he gave the same details of the said fire alarm.

In this conflicting estimates, PFM Rebusa talked to the 4 owners of the burned buildings and to other fire victims and asked to submit to BFP authorities their respective affidavits of fire loss to ascertain the total damage brought by the fire incident and urged to cooperate with the BFP on the investigation of the case.

It has been found out that the building where the fire started and originated was insured by P1 Million of which this fact would become part of the angles to be investigated as to the cause of the said fire although all the fires are accidental by nature unless proven with intentional motives, SUPT Rebusa added.

The Provincial Fire Marshal have expressed his elation for the job well done through the collective efforts of the firefighters from the fire stations of Ubay, Talibon, Trinidad, Carmen, Candijay, Jagna, Inabanga, Tubigon, Valencia, Clarin and the water tankers of Alturas Corp. and Mrs. Enriqueta Reyes that have put out and controlled the fire from extending to other buildings which could have gained more damage to property and endanger lives.
