Tubigon gets Bohol’s
2nd GMA jobs kiosk

TUBIGON Mayor Luna Piezas succeeds in pulling up from his bag of tricks a jobs kiosk, the second in Bohol and one he “muscled” in his effort to make another pitch at generating jobs and denting on poverty in northern Bohol.

Recent reports revealed that Piezas, who then was a top level executive at the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has to rub elbows with the secretary to get for Bohol its second web-based Greater Modular Access (GMA) Jobs Center.

Bohol’s first GMA Jobs kiosk was in Tagbilaran and is now housed at Capitol’s Bohol Employment and Placement Office while the upcoming kiosk would be temporarily at the Public Employment and Placement Office 2nd floor of the town hall.

This would be re-located however at a more accessible place possibly beside Julies Bakeshop, says Tubigon information officer Ligaya Castillo in a phone interview.

The move complements the country’s stepping up its search for new job opportunities here and abroad for Filipino workers to mitigate the impact of the global economic meltdown on the country’s workforce.

DOLE Secretary Marianito D. Roque, during the GMA jobs center launching said its is a vital step in ensuring local and employment opportunities for its people into the future.

The job centers of kiosks were designed fro deployment in key areas nationwide where heavy human traffic is, to increase access to job vacancies and relevant jobs information.

In it, GMA Jobs Center offers the country's first unified and synchronized, state-of-the-art system which incorporates the DOLE's time-tested Phil-Jobnet job search facility to reach out to a much greater client base with free, relevant jobs and skills information.

According to a press material from the DOLE, the kiosks will provide free job search, job skills matching services, skills registration and other pertinent services to a job seeker.

It also makes available to employers online registration, job postings for free, search for job applicants, and list of applicants with contact information.

The GMA Jobs Center is housed in a modern and convenient, touch screen and web-enabled, ATM-like machine capable of displaying information on employment opportunities and services for both would-be local and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

It is a welcome development here in this northern part of Bohol, where most job seekers need to go to Tagbilaran or Cebu to get search for jobs, Castillo reiterates.

The local government of Tubigon, through the local leaders assure their people faster and more the immediate employment for their jobless and out-of-school youth under different emergency livelihood employment programs, reports said.

Local employment opportunities include jobs in government projects as the construction and maintenance of roads, bridges, irrigation systems, school buildings and hospitals as well as job openings for Filipinos workers in “new job markets abroad.”
