Why Philippine Tourism Remains A Failure
« on: February 08, 2008, 10:49:08 AM »
My reflection for today:

I was reading the Bangkok Post and I came across an article on the aggressive, relentless tourism campaign of the Thai Government. The Tourism Authority of Thailand says it will spend millions of baht on online advertising. The government has been creating a cornucopia of websites. Each website focuses on one sector of the tourism industry. The Thai Government realized that there is no other more effective way to promote Thailand but to tap the power of the Internet.

Today Thailand is enjoying 11.7 million visitors a year and it expects to increase that figure to 13 million by the end of this year.

About 2.8 million foreign travelers visited the Philippines in 2006. The number is one of the lowest in Asia.

If you go to any Philippine government website, let alone the Philippine Tourism website, you'd just be disappointed.

I am certain that you'd agree with me that there are thousands, if not millions, of places in the Philippines that are unique to our islands and that they can never be compared to anywhere else in this planet.

Unless our government realizes the enormous power of the Internet, the beauty of our country would just be like a beautiful lady passing in a black night. Unnoticed.
