Presidential Daughter Luli Arroyo-Bernas visited the town of Bien Unido last June 5, accompanied by her husband Luigi Bernas and Bohol tourism benefactor, Joel Uichico of Bezo Recreational and Aquatic Activities of Bohol. They were welcomed by Mayor Niño Rey F. Boniel who arranged the visit in coordination with the entourage of the Presidential Daughter.
A known scuba diving enthusiast, Ms. Arroyo-Bernas and company was staying a few days earlier in Panglao Island before proceeding to this northern municipality.
The object of the visit was to experience diving at the world famous Danajon Double Barrier Reef which is located partly in the municipal waters of Bien Unido and is reputed to be the only of its kind in Asia.
Mayor Boniel led the group to the dive site which is 50 minutes by boat from barangay Puerto San Pedro, the jump off area.
The group had an experience with rare species of marine creatures, hardly found in their previous underwater forays. They likewise noted the crystal clear water and the unique cave formations. After the diving adventure, the group hinted that they will make a return dive to further explore this pristine diving site.
Their stay was capped by a birthday bash hosted by Mayor Boniel in honor of Luli Arroyo–Bernas, as the day was also her natal day. The mayor expressed his gratitude to Ms. Luli, her husband Luigi and to Uichico for finding time to visit the town.
According to him this will augur well to his effort to promote the area as among the new tourism destinations in this part of the province.
