Panglao Mayor Benedicto Alcala lashed at owners of resorts who refused to voluntarily remove structures intruding the 20-meter public easement zone.
The mayor declared he will not issue business permits to these erring resort owners as the clearing of the Panglao beachfronts have suffered a setback due to a pending temporary restraining order (TRO). Two resort owners were able to secure a TRO at the Regional Trial Court (RTC) to stop the demolition of structures within the public access areas that was enforced by Alcala.
The mayor's tough stand to clear out the 20-meter public easement zones have been hailed by tourists and the public as this restored order and cleanliness in the beachfronts.
Even though the restraining orders were granted by the court, there are still related charges filed against Alcala by the resort owners.
According to Alcala, he will just await resolution of the case. But, he vowed that the clearing should be continued as this would be unfair to those who voluntarily complied and demolished their beachfront structures. - the bohol chronicle
