Effective February 1, 2012, all departing international passengers will now pay P550 each instead of the usual P750 terminal fee, after collecting extra P200 for a five-year period has ended.
Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) chief Jose Honrado added that by yearend, the P550 would be incorporated in the departing passenger’s plane ticket.
He said his office has received complaints from passengers, preferring to pay by means of credit card after they ran out of the local currency on entering the airport, giving their small bills away to drivers and friends.
Others said they prefer to carry credit cards with them instead of cash.
The MIAA had already installed this year several credit card machines for passengers' use in each of the four passenger terminals.
The MIAA started collecting the P200 security fee to buy x-ray scanners, guns, closed-circuit television, bomb sniffing K-9s, vehicles and close to a total of 20 other pieces of equipment to enhance the airport defense and safety.
The MIAA was able to collect some P3.9 billion in five years, of which P1.65 billion had been earmarked for security enhancement projects, according to Connie Bungag, the chief of Public Affairs Office.
