Eskaya Beach Resort & Spa in Bohol sizzled as an array of VIP guests from show business, politics, the business circle and society’s Who’s Who attended its formal opening recently. This latest haven located in Panglao Island and deemed to becoming the latest celebrity getaway is designed by renowned Filipino architect Bobby Mañosa.
Leading the guest list included Department of Tourism Secretary Ace Durano with DOT Undersecretary Edu Jarque, Usec. Phineas Alburo and DOT Region VII Director Dawnie Roa. Adding glitter to the event was GMA Artist Center talent and one of the stars of "Impostora," Iza Calzado who assisted Eskaya CEO and president, Richard Lim (also the newly elected president of Rotary Greenhills) and wife Phoebe in cutting the ceremonial ribbon, together with actress Cheska Garcia and former Bb. Pilipinas World Ana Marie Igpit, a native beauty from Bohol.
Powerhouse guests from the political sector included Bohol Governor Erico B. Aumentado, Rep. Edgar Chato, and Mayor May LimImboy; while representatives from both the business and society sectors included Bohol business magnate Jun Lim, Juliet Avenido, tour operator Arjun Shroff, former presidents of the Rotary Club of Greenhills Chit Enriquez and Eddie Cruz; Genesis Hotels & Resorts President Miguel Cerqueda and VP Roger Begre; the Architectural Design team led by Bobby Mañosa, interior designer Ms. Cecilia Hofileña and Luis Alvarez; Cebu’s society chronicler, Honey Jarque Loop, PR Asia Worldwide CEO Joyce Ramirez and Eskaya Sales & Marketing Manager Nico Estrella.
Serenity and luxury share top billing at this 16–hectare development, which is 25 minutes away from Tagbilaran Airport in Bohol. This exclusive hideaway is a knock–out: guests were billeted at their own private single-detached villas that boast of a luxurious whirlpool in an indoor garden setting as well as villas with its own private pools.
The opening party was held at Eskaya’s spacious Lantawan Restaurant offering breathtaking views of the Mindanao Sea as well as the fabulous infinity pool as guests enjoyed sumptuous meals as well as cocktail drinks.
The name Eskaya refers to the only known indigenous people of Bohol. The resort is situated right in the middle of Panglao Island which is at the southernmost tip of Bohol. The resort, which officially opened its doors to the public last May 6, 2007, is pretty a much boutique–style with an upscale touch of exclusivity. The thatched villas or "balai," were built with sturdy construction materials, emphasizing ample use of bamboo, cogon, and wood to complete its modern Filipino take – reminiscent of the famed Amanpulo Resort in Palawan (incidentally, both resorts were designed by Architect Bobby Mañosa).
After the event, some of the VIP guests were given a grand tour of Bohol the following day which included a side trip to the famed Chocolate Hills, a Loboc River luncheon cruise and an unforgettable encounter with the cute Tarsier. Others, on the other hand, opted to go island–hopping to see dolphins.
To get there, one can take a short plane ride from Manila to Tagbilaran. A luxurious shuttle service is readily available, and guests are off to the resort in less than 25 minutes. All villas offers king-sized beds with six–star category high-thread count sheets and goose down pillows, outdoor bathroom with private landscaped garden setting, complete amenity set, safety deposit box, mini bar, coffee and tea making facilities, a compendium, flat screen television sets with cable, DVD player as well as IPOD speakers.
