Sharp Corp. <6753> said Friday that a key liquid crystal display panel plant in central Japan will start focusing on small models for use in smartphones and tablet computers late this year.

The Japanese electronics maker's Kameyama No. 2 plant will shift its focus from less profitable LCD panels for television sets with screen sizes of 40 inches or less.
