NIKON or CANON? :: no longer a pain in the patooty

"So, which is better, Canon or Nikon?"

Friends who come to me for my two-cents worth leave more confused than before.

Though I've always been a Nikonite for almost a decade, I can’t bet my 13th month pay since I really haven’t gotten in depth with both cameras.

Every Sinulog, the image of professional peer of photographers with their bazooka of lenses and their Nikon babies helps put Nikon a notch higher, if at all. But you know how politics and soft advertising play in this circle.

In January this year, I met a Manila-based photographer, a National Geographic photo contest winner at that, who told me it's not about the toy but it's on how you see things—the eye, the angle for the out-of-the-ordinary. I definitely agree with him. He has a Nikon toy by the way.

In one thread I've read, one commented that Canon bites the pie share more than Nikon because of advertising. Canon's core branding, brand recall and all that jazz are doing their magic perhaps. And another one wrote that in the long haul, the investment ain't really about the body (I'm referring to the camera, of course. Silly!) anymore, but the lenses or glass in photographers' parlance.

With a little help from this link, next time a friend comes up to me and get my two-cents worth, I will no longer just say "er, it depends on your needs as a hobbyist or it's like choosing between a nokia and a sony-erickson phone" or worse, "an apple and banana."

Another link goes technical and scientific about the DLSR in the market today. In the end, as they say it here at the workplace-- "IT'S UP TO YOU, really."

As for me, a trip to Hidalgo St. in Quiapo is already tucked in my planner. My loyalty has paid off.

Yup,any camera will do for me.It depends to the user exactly. When I was in cebu, having tourist photographer friends, they used nikon or canon f2,f3.After developing,I dodn't know which is which from canon or nikon. It's not by the camera,it's in the hands and the eyes of the one who uses them.Well,I'm enjoying my nikon by this time anyway. But someday I wanna have those latest Canon kiss,it's cool. ;D
