The information and communications technology (ICT) industry must adopt energy- efficient technologies to continue contributing to the global economy, a new study showed.

The study was conducted by the Institute for Sustainable and Applied Infodynamics (ISAID) in Singapore and Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy, local daily The Business Times reported on Tuesday.

The findings showed that the industry is headed for a brick wall if limits are placed on CO2 emissions.

Calculations showed that global carbon emissions related to PCs and laptops, which accounted for 48.5 percent of all global ICT emissions in 2009, will nearly quadruple by 2020. Data center- related emissions will more than triple, together with game consoles and mobile phones.

However, the study concluded that there are viable technological options in view and the industry has a strong track record of embracing new technologies. (PNA/Xinhua)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
